Issue Review
   November 21, 2016
Not necessarily an Iron Man story, but a pretty good story nonetheless.
Writer Allyn Brodsky introduces multiple threads, multiple characters, and jumps between them, holding our interest.
Everything comes together naturally.
Ending is a tad rushed.

  Redsvetz Says:

I actually kinda liked this book. It was a bit jakey the way the girl and Mechanoid fell in "love" in 5 minutes, but I liked all the moving parts in the story.

Sorta agree with Redsvetz here.. it was a nice idea. Way too short to be well implemented though, ultimately just seemed bit odd.

It had to many parts to be so short still might be a begginer for future ideas

Don Heck on hiatus improves the art instantly. Still, there is nothing special here. This book is pretty bare in the backgrounds dept. The story starts out somewhat interestingly, but, not really based upon anything. Just a touch better than mediocre set up that concludes far too quickly (happy 1970!). The script is more of the same, but word count is welcomingly decreased.(2+)

A good story. It reads like one of Stan & Ditko's morality tales from the pre-FF anthologies.

Would have been a good arc, but was way too rushed.

I admit I prejudged this issue because of the alien. I was wrong, and defo agree with the comment above. Would have been a cool little arc.

It was all going well until that stupid ending with Belinda begging "Mike" not to leave her.

I personally loved this issue of Metal Guy. Right up until the last page when those two feel in love for absolutely no reason. The rest of it was a good story though, and I liked how it dovetailed the 3 stories together. My only other criticism is that when we've had dozens of alien races come to Earth over the past decade, this seemed to treat this alien coming down as some great shocking surprise. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next issue of Metal Guy.

  Daredevil Says:

A good start, weaving multiple plot lines together. Unfortunately, you can't then expect to wrap it all up neatly in one issue, without it seeming contrived

Looks like I'm in the minority here. Reminded me of a lot of Golden Age Sci-Fi. I have a soft spot for those types of stories.

2 stars for the Mechanoid finding love...right before exploding!!!

Twinkle - I liked the Mechanoid's starship that looks like a star!!!

No Prize - It went from Belinda Thompkins to Thomkins, and then back again!!

No Doze - Is it me, or does Iron Man seem to take way to long in helping out Mike!?

'Nuff Said - "It's one of them blasted super-creeps--steel-guy or somethin'--"-Baldy Kolak

Definitely kept my interest more than the last 2 issues of Iron Man did. That's not saying a whole lot though...

The robot has to investigate Earth, but already knows the slang for hitch hiking? His priorities seem a bit questionable.

I was hoping Rick Jones would pick up the robo-hitcher and let rip with a Faaaan-Tastic! Or at least take him to a concert and start a riot with his smooth acoustic jams. So many riot stories recently...

This one tugged the heart strings just a bit. A decent issue in a not so decent rum of recent issues.

  Russ Says:
  2017-01-29 17:01:54
This was actually a pretty good story, and I agree, it could've been better fleshed out over a 2-3 issue arc instead of being contained in a single issue. Sigh, Allyn Brodsky hasn't quite decided to rebel against the Editorial Edict on self-contained stories yet.

But it was an interesting storytelling experiment he did, starting with 4-5 different and disparate threads and slowly weaving them together. It was a little clumsy, but I get what Brodsky was trying to do here.

3 stars. Wonder if anyone from the Mechanoid's home world comes around to check out what happened to their scout.

That would've been funny! I'd have paid for that issue back then. As for the riot stories, I think they were a hot-button topic of the time because of the Kent State shootings; they were still fresh on the minds of the collective public.

So, is that a "no" on the trade deal with Earth? What civilization leaves first contact to a machine? Oh, right. That's what humans have done thus far.

  Marksman Says:
  2018-01-19 09:21:07
Why build a mechanoid with a head of hair? Since he has the ability to change his looks, having hair in his original configuration serves no purpose.
