Silly story, driven by coincidences and characters making dumb decisions. 3/10

I just love the fact that they can talk under water

Quite a good issue, and something different than the usual Hulk stories.

And interesting to note the underwater speech phenomena finally being addressed (and ignored at the same time) in the comic itself.

That was probably Trimpe's best art yes. But why did Betty's clothes trun to diamond as well? I know, I know, comic book physics...

Decent issue with the ending situation for Betty a real shocker. The Hulk and a glass woman-that would never end well.

Sandman calls Hulk "Jade Jaws"...is this the first time we see that nickname? The story is pretty far-fetched coincidence, but the script is a big improvement on recent Roy Thomas. The ending was very good, even if it is pretty obvious. (3+)

This reminds me of one of my favorite games... Earthbound. Always frustrated the hell out of me when Paula got diamondized.

I'm still trying to figure out how you get any kind of blood from the Sandman. Isn't he just sand in human form at this point?

My biggest question is: why was Betty about to serve to the other volleyball team when she turned to glass? She knew she wasn't feeling well. No standing between a woman and the sport she loves, I suppose.

If I had a dollar for everytime the scene on the cover doesn't actually play out in the comic...

I was wondering that too. Is he human, who can change into sand? I thought he was sand all the time. Its not often I'm really surprised. I was hoping for Sand Witch, but that ending was a big surprise.

My big question on the premise of this issue is: Why does Sandman's blood have to go into Betty to cure him?

Page 6 panel 6 - Bruce Banner emerges from Betty's head and The Hulk emerges from Betty's butt? Somewhere else?
I also laughed out loud when I read the Sand Witch comment.

Hey doc, I've got this radiation problem so I need a blood transfusion.
No worries, I'll just take some of this woman's blood and put it in you.
Great, thanks doc, I feel much better.
Then I'll take some of your blood and put it in her.
Wait, what? Were you even listening when I mentioned the radiation?

Well, we always knew that Betty was a pain in the glass, but this was kind of ridiculous!

Decent enough story, but the medical premise here comes straight from the Stan Lee School of Science. Aren't they actually swapping blood then? If Sandman needed a fresh supply couldn't they have just hit the blood bank for enough units instead of taking from one person then dumping the bad stuff on her? Weird, even for the time period.

3 stars. The "Sand Witch" comment by Sandman was a bit sexist, but still funny.

Three star story but five star Herb Trimpe. That was outstanding work.
There is a diary of his making the rounds online that he wrote when he was fired from Marvel and became a public school art teacher that is well worth the read.

The worse Trimpe'so art gets, the more the comments here seem to love it. This was bottom of the barrel, as bad as it gets chicken-scratch. How do people think think this is good art?

I'm pretty sure that doctor violated a number of his ethical rules by doing this. He is going to lose his license at best; he'll go to jail as well, probably.

Trimpe's art was fantastic in this issue. There were a number of pages that sort of stepped outside the box for art of this era. I loved the simplicity of pg 2. Kudos to the colorist and inker for Betty's dream on 6 & 7. And I loved the building standing in for the panels on page 8. The rest of the book was by and large excellent, but these three exampled really stood out to me.
