Xythe, I am curious if you second his opinion of Sesame Street? I am curious if it is a UK wide thing, or more person by person?

I used to watch it with my mum every weekday at lunchtime before I started Infant school, and I know she did the same with my sister. Pretty much everyone around my age that I know did exactly the same. When it started airing in the 70s there was a ton of opposition to it from teachers who accused it of sabotaging kid's education before they'd even got into the classroom, and the BBC refused to buy it as a result and it landed on one of the minor ITV regional operations. But I assume that must have blown over by the late 80s when I was in its bracket because it was on Channel 4 (which is one of our big channels), and my mum wholeheartedly approved of it (and if teachers were against it, she wouldn't have). I haven't seen it on listings for a great many years though, I don't think it even lasted 10 years after I would have stopped watching, but for a while it was quite a big thing.

EDIT: But, to actually answer the question, I don't think too many people would give a crap if you slagged off Sesame Street, it was only a big thing for a small number of years. Blue Peter though, is an institution.

I'd say Blue Peter is for a bit of an older audience than Sesame Street. When I was growing up Sesame Street was what you watched before you started school, then Blue Peter took over.

A blue Peter is a flag flown from British naval ships. The show has a 4 masted sailing ship as its symbol.

It's a general 'stuff' show with interviews and features and making things and other random stuff I can't fully remember. It's been going since the 50's in the uk and anyone born since then in the uk will have seen it. As I said, it's the uk equivalent of sesame street, but without puppets...

"dissing blue peter" - Huh? Was that English? (I am guessing it is a uniquely British show)

Haha! Well connery is British, so I'm allowed to dis him.

Sesame street isn't highly regarded in the uk, not like in the USA, the equivalent in the uk would be me dissing blue Peter.

And, well, I'm English and the language is English. Until you rename your language America, I'm allowed to moan. :)

So ner.
