I too saw Serenity before Firefly. My brother was a fan of the series and when Serenity premiered I watched it with him. Didn't get around to catching Firefly until two years later, but I own it now.

I've watched it again (and again and again and again). It was just as you said.
SPOILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And not just Booker. To me it was Wash. First time i thought it just some minor character, didn't even know he's Zoe's husband. Second time everything looked different. From nearly meaningless death of a pilot, to the saddest scene in the movie - how is it posiible?

Did you ever go back and watch Serenity again. It must have been like...Ohhh, that makes more sense now. I know they worked to make it accessible to people who didn't see the show, but there is some stuff in it that I don't think was as apparent if you didn't know the background.

Like Bookers death. If you never saw the show, he was a character that was introduced and dies...if you watched the show, it had a much bigger impact.

About Firefly:
That is actually really funny, because while i was watching Serenity i didn't know that there is Firefly. I really enjoyed it. Year or two later somebody said: "firefly, great show, you gonna love it". So one day I'm watching first episode nad i'm like "WTF. I know this guys". It was amazing...

I think i have a thing for Canada:
La Femme Nikita
Due South
Firefly ( I know it's USA, but Nathan Fillion is not)
Sliders (there is a connection)

But I also check on your great american productions:
Quantum Leap
Whose Line is It Anyway (US and UK)
Drew Carey Show
Fringe
Two & A half Men
Harvey Birdman
Tru Calling
Veronica Mars (My favourite, and my wife's too)
Early Edition
Journeyman (thought Kevin McKidd has this weird acting mannerism, also visible on Grey's Anatomy)
24
ER
Numb3rs (I'm mathematician, so it a comedy for me, but i like it)

And british:
Space 1999
Robin of Sherwood (sweeeeeeeeeeet childhood)
EXTRAS ("...but even before she can get her knickers on, I've seen everything. Yeah. I've seen it all. ")
Space Precinct

I remember watching Due South when it was on. Forgot about it.

Freaks and Geeks was a great show.

Firefly was great, gotta love Joss. Such a stupid decision to cancel it.

Extras...yea that was great. And of course Who's Line. But yea...Firefly has to be on the top of that list. One of my all time favorite shows.

Curb your Enthusiasm has become a much more 'entertaining' show recently, but to be honest I really enjoyed the slow-paced earlier seasons. But I can see why people don't like it, it's more closer to the 'Show About Nothing' than Seinfeld was...and of top of that with a rich dude. But it's hard to consider after watching just a couple of episodes, has a lot of built-up and running gags so...yeah, not for everybody.

Generation Kill was really good. The wire is one of the best detective shows ever. Freaks and Geeks was a classic.

Have to find fault with Curb your Enthusiasm. That show was straight up boring.
