The details of Hulk's origin experiment were wholly different, as were, more importantly, the purposes behind Banner's research. I thought it was very clear that they weren't supposed to be the same universe. Maybe it's just because I haven't watched the Ang Lee movie recently, what did I miss?

I'm only getting technical with you because I know you love it, but in the Avengers movie, they did reference Hulk's fight with Abomination, they said something to the effect that he tore up Harlem. They didn't specifically say Abomination, but that was what they were talking about. And the gamma dobermans were from the Ang Lee Hulk, which I think you know was never intended to be part of the same universe as the Norton/Ruffalo Hulks.
But in general, I agree with you. It's not just that audience attention spans are short ... these movies come out years apart. Someone who was 16 years old when Avengers came out was 7 years old when the Ang Lee Hulk movie came out, and probably never saw it. All they know about it is the bad word of mouth it got, if they know anything about it at all.

True, but with movies the way they are, you really have to have them exist in the same world. If they were seperate, it would confuse the hell out of audiences. Confused audiences? Like DOOM said, in the era of reboots? This is more movie execs, EICs are clueless rant, but the bosses have a really low opinion of the consumer. I don't think anyone is sooo anchored into little blond dude's (see? I don't recall and can't be bothered, Shawn [by end of post my brain said, Ashmore?] something?) portrayal of Bobby Drake that they would've had trouble accepting a new actor or new take on the character. Especially in our ADD era, with the volume of media produced, who would even notice? Would it create a logical inconsistency, having Iceman in the 60s when movie goers just saw him in the 200s? Yeah, but so? And this is tough, b/c I used to be the king of, "that's not the real way it is" in film adaptations of comic books, but just let it rip. No one's gonna hold all the Marvel films together in 2045 and try to care if it's a coherent shared universe. It's cool when they do it and it works, Avengers I guess. But nobody cared that we're on modern Bruce Banner portrayer #3, and I didn't watch it that closely, but was any hint stated that that Hulk had fought an Abomination, or Gamma dobermans? Just doesn't matter. Rant concludes.

Also, it always felt like they were writing the ultimate line to be movies. They seemed more cinimatic and stylised. I mean, they made fury look like Sam Jackson way before there was a movie to put him in.

I'm sure it had some influence on the later films, but I don't think it was a huge factor. I've noticed that generally the newer Marvel movies take a lot from the Ultimate line... that makes sense though. It's a lot less convoluted, and a lot more current.

for better or worse, I kind of got the impression that they were channeling Ultimate Spider-Man for this relaunch.

Yea, I am in the same boat I guess, since all my Spidey knowledge is 70's and earlier.
Also, the actor just doesn't look like I think Parker should look. Maguire looked ok as Parker, but this guy not so much. Maybe its the floppy hair.

Just seen the trailer. Not really that excited about this one. Maybe it's because my entire SM knowledge comes from the first 400ish issues of the reading order, but there's a lot of that which seems slightly off.
