This series does indeed appeal to the younger crowd, especially juvenile males. The movie, The Lightning Thief, was fairly intense at times and age appropriate. I wish there were more like this rather than the blood and gore which seems to take top billing today.

My son loved those books. I actually read one with him, and while they are a little juvenile, they are pretty well written...better then most young adult fantasy novels. Helps that Riordan was originally a mystery writer who switched to young adult novels because of the better paycheck, so he had a bunch of books under his belt already.

Yet they are making a Sea of Monsters film soon. The adaptation was terrible

Riordan's Percy Jackson series is pretty popular. I think it's overrated though. Felt very formulaic.
