I was also disappointed by the third one, although I don't agree it was wrapped up in a hurry. The last 20% or so was really excellent imo. The majority of it I found really uninteresting though, and Katniss was really, really starting to get on my nerves as a character. Her insecurities and personality flaws worked really well in the first 2 books, and she felt like a realistic character behaving as you'd expect from a teenage girl in the circumstances she found herself in. However in the third, she went a bit Bella Swan on us.

Um if they put gay people in video games then children are going to think it is normal or even ok to be gay and that would be... Oh, well, I guess that would probably be alright.

Oh I don’t feel bad for it at all. The banned books list is a fantastic reference for when you’d stuck for something decent to read.

The moral outrage I was referring to would be the letter writing campaign from the usual suspects (Christians for a Moral America, American Family Association etc) against EA condemning them for allowing homosexual relationships in their games and demanding that the homosexual options they’re planning for SWTOR are not introduced, lest children be exposed to those evil gays and their agenda. They’re just the sort of people I’d expect to take issue with something like this book, particularly with a movie to put it into the public eye so prominently.

It is based around an event where kids murder each other on live television, I’m surprised the moral outrage brigade haven’t been out in more force to be honest. I guess they’re too busy worrying about gay people in videogames.

Actually was surprisingly good. Aside from a couple of slightly predictable events, it was a really good read. I'm quite shocked, normally when some book becomes this big must-read thing I find it really pretty uninspiring, need to read the other 2 now.
