I finished the music school (piano class). Then I stuck with the drums. Even played in some local bands here and there. Learned to play acoustic guitar on my own (as a result I'm not very good at it) and in high school we had a recorder classes (flute, internal duct flutes to be exact). I guess it would be smarter to stuck with one instrument and perfect it rather than play everything. Oh well

Pics of musical instruments. Ya know, I never really did that before, take photos of my musical instruments...so this thread on a comics site inspired me to finally do so. Thanks for the impetus. Oddly I have taken part in a few music forums in the past mainly in an effort to discover the best computer soundcard interface, but I never really shared much on other sites. Comics is somewhere where I feel real comfortable, so I'm enjoying this board. So I shared, Doom made me do it!
Pics of sweat stains....hmmmm??, just make sure you get your reflection in the finish of your banjo when photo before you share!

My bass is full of sweat stains. It gives it character.
I should try to get some pictures of it.

over-pontification....my cross to bear
THAT Byrdland is awesome (looking)....altho I have never played that one...mine is beaten up....gassed pick guard...intensely distressed P/U covers...but mine has Kluson Sealfast tuners which are incredible (like the tuners on the archtop.com listing I linked to). The quality of tuners on a guitar cannot be understated. My Byrdland is seldom out of tune....it is astonishing. There is a good reason for highly priced highest quality construction instruments: they are better instruments, period. 7-Ply binding, Andriondock Spruce tops, highest quality wiring, real mother of pearl inlay, 5-peice laminated necks. Don't be shy, try em if u can. The sound & playability will blow your mind.

MrRsBB, why don't you share a bit about your musical background? lol.
Just teasing. That's a pretty sweet Byrdland though.

I've tried the electric guitar today. I can't play it for nothing. ) Seems like I'm made only for piano, but I really like the guitar. Who knows, maybe one day I'll ace it.

Re: Do you play anything? |

I started playing guitar when I was 10. I studied Music Theory in High School as a junior & senior. My Family is not overly musical, just my brother & myself. Personally, I have to play the guitar for at least 4hrs per week...otherwise I just get grumpy(er). Music software changed my life, to be able to see waveforms & edit was so exciting when I first discoverd it/ could afford it. I have been Using IQS/RML Labs' SAW since 1998. I started with SAW SE purchase, I bought SAW Pro for whatever it cost at the time, $500... & I have been using SAW Studio Lite since I purchased it in 2002. I did a little time with Pro Tools LE & spent some time in studios running PT for television editing & some music productions. Pro Tools is too software-like for me rather than virtual musical gear which I prefer. I use Propellerheads Reason, Recycle. I do enjoy composing directly into the Reason Midi editor. I don't have Record yet. Rush was my favourite band in HS & after. I can play a reasonable Rush catalogue off the top of my head. I am a noodler, tho & not much of a reader, altho I can write music notation. I can play along with pretty much anything rock/prog/pop. Lately (last 4 years) I is playing quite jazzy. I bought a vintage Gibson Byrdland in 2009 & started getting really into Jazz guitarists since then...Wes Montgomery & Kenny Burrell, etc. I can't really hang with those guys tho. I always loved Pat Metheny. Lately I have been collecting new music releases on Spotify & I play along with random playback. I am loving the new Beach House & 2:54 albums amongst another 50 releases. I gotta watch it tho, cuz I work from home. If I can play along, I will. So jazz & classical & Messiaen Organ music keeps the guitar out of my hands & me workin. I can totally relate to waiting for the "space" to play in. I finally have the space...now to build the studio! My current collection short list (blast it Doom! you made me take some pics!!! that is why I don't take pics, I ain't profeshinal enuff. I don't like it when you can see the photographer in the reflection. I am a much better musician than photog!): -1974/5 Gibson Byrdland (vintage tobacco burst made in Kalamazoo, I paid £3750). This guitar sounds incredible, acoustically louder than my Guild acoustic. My guitar is in France right now & I am in the UK. Here is a photo of a same year guitar in much better condition than mine is in. http://www.archtop.com/ac_74-5byrdland.html-A Vox Phantom 12-string (40 yr old Eko parts assembled in North London by Brandoni) looks like this http://www.brandoniguitars.co.uk/product/vox_1_lg.jpg...mine has a natural headstock. -I have Two nearly identical Hearfield RR-8s in black. http://www.heartfield-central.com/pictures/rr8/j10305.jpg I won the first one in a raffle in 1990, I was in a band & kept breakin strings on stage, so I needed a second. One of the shop salesmen that I knew well told me about a "sister" Heartfield that was for sale & I bought it. They are two serial #s apart: J10302 & J10304 (1989). J10302 used to always go where I go. Now I have guitars in all my destinations, so I don't need to travel with any. Everyone who plays these Heartfields loves them, easy to play & hold...the shape is Danelectro mixed with a tele. The color of the Heartfield is also really cool, mine are Black paint with a small amount of blue metal flake, it is very hard to photograph. -A Guild Acoustic (2006)...Chinese made, Rosewood back & sides. (in France, I can't seem to find an exact match on the iternet just now) -Epiphone Les Paul (2004) 7-string blackburst http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=epiphone+les+paul+seven+string&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N&biw=1920&bih=965&tbm=isch&tbnid=UYQWcdmfDniREM:&imgrefurl=http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-27430-Epiphone-Les-Paul-7-String-Guitar&docid=opIsbQ0iN7e1aM&imgurl=http://www.guitar-museum.com/uploads/guitar/13/190182695242-1.jpg&w=400&h=300&ei=1CJjUMeUDuva0QWZuYGoCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=178&vpy=469&dur=3174&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=186&ty=103&sig=115494336424871635412&page=1&tbnh=137&tbnw=175&start=0&ndsp=49&ved=1t:429,r:19,s:0,i:135-1987 Fender Strat (japanese) came with a schaller floyd rose- has had a lot of modification. Therefore one needs an amp. Most of the recordings I have made were with an ADA MP-1, traynor power amp, custom Pacific Speaker cab. I often played stereo so I would borrow a Fender Deluxe or Twin for one of the stereo legs. Nowadays I have a Fender Cybertwin & a Princeton 65. I did use a VHT power amp for a while when I was playing gigs in San Francisco & that sounded absolutely incredible. The best amp I have ever played is my friend's Bogner Metro, WOW! various effects: Quadraverb, Digitech Whammy Pedal that I used to use. Nowadays I prefer playing clean with very little FX, yet I get into programming to suit. I used to play guitar & banjo & sing in a band. For a pickup on the banjo, we took a radio shack pzm mic off of the metal base plate & taped it to the banjo drum head. It actually sounded pretty good! Again, I have said way, way too much!

I can play the piano. I took some lessons when I was in highschool and I can say that I'm pretty good at it. Some people even said that if should've continue with my lessons, as I'm a natural talent.
