In the words of the late great George Carlin: "The wrong two Beatles died first."

I don't know, even here in the states, he comes off as kind of a d-bag on the news. He seems very pleased with himself every time I have seen him.

I suppose Paul is probably in the news on your side of the pond

It's quite hard to put into words. The lyrics, for one, are generally pretty average. I find it perplexing that Lennon/McCartney are often cited as some of the greatest lyricists of all time. I don't see it at all. I don't like their voices, either. They're not unpleasant, but I don't find them appealing or unique.

I think you may have even summed it up for me there yourself. Using words like "pleasant" and "nice", that's not what I look for in rock music at all. It's all just a bit too clean for me. If I want something like that, I usually prefer to listen to classical music.

Then there's the fact that the Beatles as people rather annoy me, as well. Especially Paul McCartney. He turns up a lot on the news and stuff, and I really don't like the guy. It could be that I'm biased against them simply for that reason. Whatever it is, I just don't get anything special from listening to the music. That's not to say I hate it, or even that there aren't songs I really like. But you would never catch me saying things like "I could listen to Abbey Road every single day for the rest of my life." Oh no.

Also, returning to this thread after some time. I went through a couple of weeks of really listening to the Beatles extensively. All the albums listed here. I really tried.

Sorry guys, just don't feel it. It mostly just irritates me.

!!!

Not to say your opinion is wrong (though it clearly is!) but I've never heard something like this before...

I can understand ambivalence for the Beatles, but the fact that you seem to genuinely dislike them is perplexing. If you were to say their early stuff is too simple or you're not a fan of rock music on any level I guess it would make sense at least..

I just don't know what's there to DISlike. They wrote pleasing melodies, had nice harmonies and evn occasional moments of dynamic instrumentation....

Can you elaborate?

Glee. I don't understand the appeal of the TV show at all. I just don't see how anyone can be interested in watching a show which is grounded around what awesome singing voices the main cast have, when all of the singing is auto-tuned to buggery. The sounds coming out just don't belong with the person "singing". I do, however, understand the appeal of the storylines and characters themselves (even if I don't personally enjoy it). What I absolutely don't get on even the most basic level, is why anyone would go out and buy the albums, or go to watch the cast mime along on stage. It is simply the worst crime in overproduced, manufactured music I think I've ever had the misfortune to experience. Someone once described it to me as "music for people who don't really like music", and I think that sums it up pretty well.

I agree entirely with this.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I personally love VU, but it took me a while to warm up to them. Thats one sign of a really good band...plenty of bands have put out a hit or two that are awesome at first and then begin to grate on you after a couple months...only the very best bands make songs and records that get more dynamic with every listen, VU is definitely one of those bands. Additionally, I think they're a band that comes off as nothing too special because everyone under the sun has copied them in some way since then, but when you consider their stuff against other acts from that time you realize how unique and ahead of their time they were.

funny that only two of those songs are on the two albums I have on my cpu- the two I see recommended most: W/ Nico and White Light/White Heat.

I remember specifically reading that "Heroin" was good and disliking it immensely.
