Whoa! Media should not be politically oriented full stop? Let's parse out what we really mean here. Art always reflects its time and its author, and those creators are free to inject really whatever subtext they want. If you're saying you'd rather not see young people exposed to a hidden 'political as dirty word' agenda, I could get with that, but people see or don't see subtext wherever they want to. Is every song about dancing from the sixties really coded to mean sex? I could read in that many are, but I wanna think some are just about dancing. Politics is a tough word. The very meaning gets corrupted as often as those who participate in it. That said I don't think there are any hidden political agendas in comics to be concerned about. Also, I think it would be a greater disservice to youth to keep them sheltered and ignorant. Kids can be pretty smart sometimes, give them some grown up issues to think about. Let them consider which side of Civil War they would support. CW is a good example. Grownups read all the political subtext, kids are just like, "OMFG! Ironman just punched Cap!"

Plenty of comics are politically motivated, look at Millers recent creator book. And there is plenty on the liberal side. My point was more, its a big medium, you can't characterize it all one way or another.

I agree, comics, the media should not be politically orientated full stop, it's a really sneaky way of shaping young minds to fit in with political motivations.

Why Not? Because it takes the point of view that all comic creators should be one thing. Comics is a pretty big medium, lots of people with really different viewpoints.

But mostly, its the argument that comics = liberal. Thats just bullshit.

There is so much wrong with this article. I wrote better bullshit papers in college. It's psuedo-conservative (modern conservatives are far from what a true conservative is) fanboy whining that states personal opinion as irrefutable fact. I mean, c'mon...Aqauman bitching about oil spills is proof of the liberal media bias? Fucking moron.

That is one of the things I like about the 60's Marvel comics. Their stance on Race (with story likes like the Serpent Squad and characters like the Black Panther), Peace, etc.

Admittedly this was tempered with crazy anti-communist stuff, but still, I like that the comics have a stand.
