Interesting article.

I think Marvel did see an upswing, but that we're coming to the end of that upswing.
I don't know if the recent movies have been the kind o movies that make you want to pick up a comic book. Mostly because I wanted to anyway :)

Well I think with X-Men and Spider Man being successful we saw the initial boom and both companies have been riding it since then. Since X-Men in 2000 only one year, 2001, has been void of a Marvel movie. I would say while we haven't seen increased sales per se from it Marvel has managed to crank out more titles with the related properties. Remember around the time of the bankruptcy the X franchise had been cut down title wise and that since the movies it has gone beyond the title count of the 90's.

Why do you think Marvel hasn't seen the same upswing from the latest "Marvel" movies. I know there have been marvel movies for years now, But starting with, I guess Iron Man, we are in a new upswing of movies that are coming faster and faster. And yet it doesn't seem like there is a correlation in book sales.

Definitely interesting, the article points out how it helped Marvel greatly whereas the Superman movie and Wonder Woman tv show helped DC. I guess both struck gold at the right time and carried it over for close to 15 years. The same can probably be said of the movie boom following Blade. Marvel was falling fast, filing for bankruptcy and having low print runs on their comics.

This is a pretty interesting article arguing that the bringing of Star Wars to Marvel comics in the 70's saved comics. Thoughts?
