Yeah, again I'm aware that Robin Williams is a good actor, although he turns up in some awful films. I just find him distracting because everything about him irritates me.
I don't really get too involved in real-world side of the comic industry. I know names but very little about the people involved. Bendis seems like a bit of a douche, but I generally enjoy all the books of his I've read. That's enough for me. =p
If he was an actor, it might be a different story...

FWIW I think Bendis is good but overused and his saturation kinda exposes little things that might've taken you a decade to notice if he worked at normal human pace. Love Powers and dammit, I will buy a BMB book on writing comics.
Oh, and I don't think citing Hook, Jumanji or Patch effin Adams is a good way to defend the acting skills of Robin Wms.

Why make their issues public, that just seems so immature.

So he is apparently writing a "how to write comic books" book, to come out in 2013. Curios what this will look like. I may think the guy is a tool, but he does know how to write books that sell.

Bendis twitter post: Quote: its not clever or hip to hide from the emotional truth of your characters. it means you, the author, are afraid to go there. so many comics do this. drives me nuts. I don't know why, but every time he posts I fee annoyance.

Christian Bale, yeah, I've seen two of those films you listed (The Machinist and 3:10 to Yuma). Both great films, but Christian Bale's performance didn't really stand out. Like I said before, he's pretty good at playing sort of brooding introverts. Which he pretty much is in both of those movies. When it comes to conveying any sort of real emotion, I haven't really seen anything of his that worked for me in this regard. That's why I think he works well as characters which don't really display genuine emotion, like Batman, the Machinist, American Psycho (Especially this, he was perfect for this movie. You really get the impression that the character's entire life is a facade from the way Bale acts... but maybe that's just because he's not acting very well if that makes sense). Heh, I didn't even mention American Psycho because it was exactly as you said - he's acting as if he's acting out a part, and that's what he's supposed to be doing, but it's strange because of it. The Machinist was insane though, the amount of weight he lost for filming, etc.
Still, for the first two, I don't understand the hate - did they kill your puppy in a double team grandslam?
However, if you dislike Robin Williams, Death to Smoochy is the perfect film for you - he plays a foul mouthed drug-using Children's Show presenter, but he isn't the main character. Sappy ending, slightly ridiculous throughout, but well worth the watch imo

He's pretty good at playing emotionally retarded people without much depth of character. But if he were to end up on a movie which really relies on the actors' performances, the atmosphere and stuff. I think he'd fall flat on his face. And not to do pushups or anything like in Batman. Tom Hanks I generally dislike in everything... I'm also not a fan of Robin Williams in this regard. A buh?
Christian Bale - the Machinist, the Prestige (not the biggest role, but played it to a t), Reign of Fire and 3:10 to Yuma were all stirling performances, the Machinist being very performance centred imo.
Tom Hanks - Charlie Wilson's War, The Terminal, Cast Away, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, The 'burbs.
Robin Williams - Aladdin, Mrs Doubtfire, Death to Smoochy (this might not be well known, but very much worth a watch), One Hour Photo, Patch Adams, Jumanji, Hook, supposedly Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting (Haven't seen either). As far as Tom Hanks and Robin Williams go, I just find them annoying.
