I think the Marvel editors have missed one opportunity after another by constantly keeping the X-Men out of Marvel-wide events and they have pulled so far away from the MU and become so isolated I don't even want to read them anymore. At least during the Claremont and 90s eras they had some comradery with the rest of the MU. I have stopped caring about the outcast metaphor.

I think it's going to be challenging for them to convincingly mesh both worlds. It would certainly raise a lot of questions like.. Where were the Avengers when the Earth was almost destroyed by the Scarlet Witch and the government was bringing in all those anti-mutant laws + Xmen almost seems like it is set in an alternate Universe where mutants exist and everyone knows about them but in the Avengers world superheros are still pretty much under wraps pretty new to the scene.

The more hype I read for AvX the more I can't wait to read it. I know it's hype and I have a strong premonition that the ending isn't going to be especially satisfying.... But I still can't wait! 12 Whole Issues of event-calibre art and writing???? Yes, please!

Yea, that is a big part of what bugs me about the events, is they force the crossovers just to sell more of slower moving titles.

I like them too and they are always the first book I read the week a new issue is released. I can understand people being annoyed that they have to add another $3.99 book to their pull list to stay in the loop. One other thing that I can definitely get behind are when books are, seemingly, forced to do tie-in issues when it doesn't really make that much sense. I just recently read the Secret Invasion issues of X-Factor. That was an instance where the tie-in definitely felt forced.

They do have too many events. The events do have too many tie ins. That being said, I love them. I can't help it. And if I can say that with my eyes open to the problem, I imagine many fans are into them as well.
They haven't been perfect but the only major missteps, event-wise, for me were Secret Invasion (didn't make sense) and Fear Itself (didn't capture my attention, but the main mini was a good read when I finally got to it). I've actually enjoyed eveything else. They haven't been perfect, but they've been fun.

In a way it makes some sense from a storytelling perspective. There have been a few times recently in my reading for the order where something so insane is happening in one title that I'm like, "how is it possible that other heroes aren't getting involved with this?" Events address that inconsistency.

I don't really consider things like Shattered Heroes or Regenesis to be events, per se. I consider them in the same vein as The Initiative, Dark Reign, and The Heroic Age. To me they are general banners for a particular status quo that's established post-event. Also, I think there are two tiers of events - main events and mini events. Stories I would consider main events from the last ten years are House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Siege, and Fear Itself. I would consider things like World War Hulk, Messiah Complex/War, Spider-Island, and Schism to be mini-events in that they generally seem confined to only a handful of books in a particular corner of the Marvel universe. I tend to not be bothered much by these "mini" events. All that being said, I think a lot of times events would be suited to be handled within the main books of whatever corner of the Marvel universe they are happening in instead of creating an entirely new mini-series. Secret Invasion and Fear Itself, for example, would be handled just fine within the pages of Avengers and New Avengers. This is especially apparent to me as, IMO, the Fear Itself Avengers tie-ins were pretty lackluster. I haven't read it but Spider-Island seems like the best way to handle an event these days. Wouldn't Flashpoint have been much better being told in the pages The Flash?

I know they've done an Avengers vs. X-Men story in the past and I don't really mind that much. If the story is set up in a believable way, I will be fine with it.
