Thanks for the trailer. Hmm, I do hope this one is better than the first, which wouldn't be so hard to do in my opinion. It seems like we won't see so much of the annoying Earth cast.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with Thor. My expectations going in were kinda low for some reason. The fight with the Destroyer was one of the highlights of the movie for me. I never was that impressed with it in the comics, but I thought the filmmakers did a fantastic job with it. Dennings and especially Portman were wasted in their roles, and they are two actresses I like a lot.

I just created a related poll to see how people rank the pre-avengers phase 1 movies if you're interested :) .

So you weren't too happy about the first film either? Don't get me wrong, I didn't think it was really awful crap or something (I'd rate it 7/10) but after the general positive reviews I was quite baffled about all the buzz. What really bothered me was the waste of so much talent in so many one-dimensional roles. Portman's role reminded me slightly of female depiction out of the early 60's, Idris Elba was basically a talking rock and the great Tadanobu Asano ended up as a random asian guy.

Those are basically my thoughts. I was quite disappointed that it all basically just built up to a fairly uninteresting fight with what just amounts to a fancy robot. And all it offered in addition was a bunch of fairly standard humor and a supporting cast that I truly couldn't care less about (Portman and Dennings in particular). It's not a bad movie by any stretch, but it and Iron Man 2 sit shoulder-to-shoulder as the sagging middle of Phase 1 in my mind.

I think that a lot of people that loved the first film were women. The reason I believe this is that Thor is my wife's favorite Marvel character simply because of Chris Hemsworth. She has the hots for him, as do a lot of other females that I know. I'm not saying that the first movie was bad, but when comparing it to the other "Phase 1" movies, it isn't the best.

Looks like they're actually going to be delving into the fantasy elements a bit more this time around, so that's good. Hopefully they've gotten all of the whole "pointless faffing about on earth doing just about jack shit" thing out of their systems.

For me, almost all of the Thor stories I have enjoyed have been more focused on Asgard than Earth. I generally like a lot of the Asgardians, too. Like the Warriors three and Balder.

I thought the Thor movie was alright, but it didn't blow me away. I didn't really like Nathalie Portman in the movie at all. The action scenes were generally very satisfying, though.
