Just saw this today and felt a little disappointed. The first half was pretty much all origin story, which was just too much. I hope if they retell it in future movies that they find a quicker way so that more attention can be given to the actual story.

As for the rest of the movie, it was pretty good. I think I would have liked more of Captain Stacey (Denis Leary). My favorite Parker moment was when he was at dinner with the Stacey's. I'm curious as to who else they might have planned as villains in future movies (with this incarnation of SM).

Thanks for the recap UT. I had planned to see it but now I will know a little more what to expect. Maybe for someone who does't know Spidey that well, the origin part won't be too much. Think?

I actually kind of liked it. My only gripe was how long it took for him to become "Spider-Man". It didn't feel as big as any of the movies in the trilogy... it was almost like they sacrificed big for dark. I did like the direction they went a lot more, and it was nice to see Peter working on his suit. I think now that the origin is out of the way this could be a better franchise than the Raimi trilogy.

Isn't that the problem tho? All we ever get is trilogies and then reboot.

It took bond 50 years to need a reboot, and boy did it need one, but in that time they had 5 different actors playing him.

It just seems to be an awful way to go, basically making the same film every 8-10 years.

I'm actually in favor of a reboot, because I really would like to see Green Goblin done better. Willem Dafoe was great, but the overall handling of the character was really bad. I also really love the "tower of babel" sort of feel you get from Oscorp. You didn't quite get that from the trilogy.

They drop a lot of hints regarding Norman Osborn... so I'm sure he'll play a bigger part in the future.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed with this movie. I thought the one-liners were a bit forced at times, not particularly well delivered and the story was too dragged out.

I thought every time Peter came back to the house it was like he was high on something. Obviously that was the intention, but there's no way Aunt May would just react even half normally to that.

Overall I liked it well enough - though Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy was just strange - her face before the first kiss was classic.

Keep in mind though, of the original trilogy, I thought it got worse as it went on (Most people seem to like S2 over S1)

Glad I'm not the only one who got a kick out it. I lolled in the theater.

I was so confused - I thought she was going to slap him when it happened

Another two of the biggest problems for me were the density of the football in that later scene (why didn't it explode, instead of doing what it did); and the cranes. Why did they think that was a cool idea?

It's a comic book movie, sometimes you just gotta let this stuff go. We're talking about a movie where a guy gets superpowers from being bitten by a spider. =P
