Anybody watching this? If so, is it any good?
My DVR is recording it, and I think I've got 3 or 4 episodes already--I just keep avoiding starting it for some reason.

Hmmmm. I used to be a big Fringe fan, but gave up on it this season--my wife's still sloggin' along with it, but she'll watch anything.

I've watched the first three episodes and I have enjoyed them. There are definitely some similarities to Fringe, although I think a better comparison would be to Lost. This shouldn't be too big a surprise though, as all three shows are J.J. Abrams creations. Like Fringe you have the strong female lead and the quirky subject matter expert who assists her. While Fringe deals solely with the paranormal and features a weird unexplained phenomena of the week, Alcatraz appears to have just a single unexplained paranormal conspiracy, for which the characters have no answers and are basically doing damage control. Like Lost, the show features flashbacks interwoven with the main narrative, although this time the flashbacks are to pre-1963 Alcatraz. Similarly, each episode seems to simultaneously build up and slowly chip away at the mystery. I would say if you liked Lost then its definitely worth checking out as it features many similar storytelling techniques without telling the same story. It seems like a show you really have to commit to though so if you prefer your TV shows to have good resolution episode to episode it may not be for you.

Oh, I dig the crap out of Fringe, only saw it through season 2, got some catching up to do.

I couldn't get into Fringe, but I absolutely loved LOST. I keep searching for another show like it and haven't found one that wraps me in as much as LOST did.
