Still haven't watched the one with Will Smith's sprog. One of those remakes where even though people say it's not that bad, I can't bring myself to do it.

Its way better the Karate Kid 4 (or was it 3)...the one with Hilary Swank in it.

Admittedly that's damning it with faint praise...

I actually saw it at the cinema. I thought it was alright, but I do love Jackie Chan.

Kinda dumb that it was called Karate Kid when he's in China learning Kung Fu. But whatever. =P

Well, with the obvious ones excluded and digging in childhood memories, this one pops into my mind:

Re-watched it a year ago and still loved it.

Never heard of it. Anyone noteworthy in the movie?

I think Robert Prosky and Paul Winfield are the only noteworthy actors in this, but they don't even have that much of a screentime. For a recommendation...I don't know. There are some movies you grew up with and they stay some kind of frozen even if you get older. So I'm clearly not unbiased on this one. But the film doesn't deserve a five point o on imdb. It's like a road-movie for kids, but not in a Disney-way. There's death of a parent, racism, violence against youth and many other not-quite-childish-themes. And it got that feel-good vibe. Okay, fuck it, I sincerely recommend this movie! I think it's on netflix.

Skipping over the obvious givens for the 80s (BTTF, Ghostbusters, Goonies, you know the drill) and ones that have already been mentioned, I'd like to throw into the mix:

Maximum Overdrive (c'mon, a guy gets killed by a drink vending machine!)
Evil Dead 2
The Last Starfighter (apparently due for a remake/pseudo-sequel - same writer, same star)
Crocodile Dundee (1 and 2)
Beetlejuice
High Spirits
Labyrinth

... and the multi award-winning masterpiece of 80s cinema that is The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (this is a little joke, there's no need to have me locked away!)

I could go on, but I'd bore you all to death with my love of 80s films.

I love Last Starfighter, but the "amazing computer graphics" are so bad it makes me hurt.

I know, it's hard to watch sometimes! Still you gotta give them kudos for putting it all together, no small feat at the time. Aren't the cheesy special effects what we all look for in a good 80s movie anyway?!
