I sure did open a can of worms here didn't I? Obviously, I am not a proponent of gay marriages. To each his own. I feel in the end we will all have to answer for our actions, whether they be right or wrong. You shocked me Doom with *Cough*this new information*cough*. Had to look it up. Info. sketchy on Parker and Richards but Summers seems pretty straight. http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/2 ... /120619827

I was referring to a comment stating main characters shouldn't get married.

To your point: even if you have a problem with gay marriage, it still exists. And despite having super heroes, comics still try to reflect the society they come from. It seems to me that having something you don't like portrayed in a fictional world would actually give the world more depth and realism.

I used to not believe in gay marriage. I was against it 100%, but I actually sat down and did some philosophical thinking. I reasoned with my mind and now support gay marriage.
When it comes to my religion (I am a Protestant), I could not find anyone who could show me in the Bible where it is against this, outside of Leviticus. Many people point out Sodom as a land of homosexuality, but if you look closer, it is about sexual deviancy. When the angel's come to the city for Lot (who's daughter's later date rape him so they can get pregnant) the men of the city try to rape them.
As for Leviticus, well, if you have a tattoo or wear clothing of mixed fabric (55% cotton, 45% polyester) then you are going to hell. I tend to disregard whatever Leviticus says due to the New Testament. The New Testament does away with not being able to eat certain animals like Pork and mingling with Gentiles, so why would some of these other things not be erased. If anyone can find in the Bible, outside of Leviticus, where it condemns homosexuality, please enlighten me. I have asked one pastor, and a friend who is a daughter of a pastor, and they both have given me 'let me get back with you' answers. I have not heard about it since from them.
Additionally, people point out that couples should be man and woman because we were designed to procreate. I say, 'What of those who cannot have children? Are they useless, without meaning. Should we ban them from marriage?' Obviously, most people don't have a problem with someone who is sterile getting married. Many Protestants advocate birth control.

From a personal standpoint, I have been pulled away from the one I love, on multiple occasions. I have had to fight for her and my daughter. I've had to fight for her in more ways than I can count, and it has paid off. I now have a daughter with her. By the Army's regulations, I should not be with her (She got married to a douche because she thought it was his kid, her divorce isn't final, so technically it's infidelity which is illegal in the armed forces). Does the Army's regulations stop me or her? Nope. We won't be told who we can be with, not by our families, and sure as hell not by the government.

A thoughtful post, but allow me to add:
Gay marriage has NOTHING to do with the bible or religion.
As most arguments against it cite religion, most arguments against it are bunk.

Superheroes should definitely get married, so that their loved ones can die and provide an origin story.

Gay marriage as a political issue should have nothing to do with the bible or religion. Gay marriage as a religious issue has a lot to do with the bible and religion. The problem is that not everyone fully understands what separation of church and state means or, if they do, don't buy into it. From that perspective I believe that the federal or state governments shouldn't be able to deny the right of its citizens, gay or straight, to marriage (as recognized by the state) based on the issue of sexual orientation. At the same time, I believe that religious organizations should have the right to choose who they marry within the context of their religious traditions.

And even less to do with religion when it is two fictional characters getting fictionally married.

Sure, people say, well these comics are promoting something they are against. They also have promoted Human/Android marriages and a MASSIVE amount of violence, some murders (sometimes on a large scale), people steal things, there have been characters hooking up for years so there is out-of-wedlock sex, there have been a few love children, as mentioned by someone else in another post more then a few instances of Rape, kids fighting with their parents, a little paganism (there are witches in the books after-all).

So if someone is religious enough to not want to read a book that has gay marriage in it, they should have already not been reading the book for breaking pretty much every commandment in the past.

I honestly don't care for comics or movies with paganism or heavy religious themes (see: Spawn, Ghostrider, Constantine, stuff with Dormammu (whatever), Son of Satan).
But I sure don't have any right to suggest they shouldn't be allowed to make them!
