What was the name of that book?

I'm currently reading "The Snow Leopard" by Peter Matthiessen, its not necessarily a "History" book but it is an account of an expedition he was on to study mountain goats and try to glimpse a Himalayan Snow Leopard. It's pretty interesting. I was a music studies minor in college so a lot of the historical reading I do relates to music history. I could make some recommendations if there is any interest.

Had the name wrong. Is called 1453: The Holy War For Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West by Roger Crowley. Really well written and researched.

Thats history books for you. They usually have crazy long subtitle. I think the title is just 1453, the rest of it is just sub-title.

I read a really interesting one about the fall of Rome, nobody seems to know this but Rome was pretty much brought down by one guy, King Alaric of the Visigoth's and they say that after he died he was buried beneath the Danube with the spoils of his conquest and all the slaves who buried him were killed after so somewhere beneath the Danube in Europe is over a thousand years worth of Roman treasure and no-one know's where it is.

I can't remember the book but it's a fascinating story, well worth looking up.

I'll read them if it's about knights or has lot's of fantasy. I love all the dragons and historical fiction. I used to read a lot of the cursader books and Scottish books about knights and William Wallace etc. I like the genre though I wouldn't say it's my favourite genre.

Not to sound all snobbish, but I usually feel those who don't like history books just haven't read the right ones. Some are more exciting and better written then most fiction titles.

DOOM will read ONE and ONLY ONE of these so-called "history books" that are more exciting thAn most fiction titles.

Recommend.. At. Your. Peril.

Washing of the Spears. History of the Zulu nation.

Those guys were badasses. Spears vs. Machine guns. Not a good plan, but badasses.

Possible the best history book I have ever read.
