I'm in the middle of Legend right now, and I am not really impressed. I've often heard of his name being mentioned with the greats of fantasy literature. Maybe it's not on a grand enough scale for my taste (Erikson, Goodkind, etc). Why is he considered such a legend (pardon the pun) in fantasy writing?

At least I'm not alone.

He tends to re-tread his plots, uses indestructible or impossibly skilled characters, and loves the battle of Thermopylae far too much. It's kinda ridiculous. but it's also fun and easy to read. He's not a great, in my eyes, but he's above the average fantasy writer.

There's just too many better stories and authors out there to waste any time on him.
