What is your number one fantasy book or series? Please don't say Twilight! My favorite fantasy series is definitely Harry Potter. I grew up with those kids. I might as well be at Hogwarts.

Tough one.

I'd like to say the Discworld novels, but they're not so much a series as a collection of stories in the same fantasy universe. Probably the Sword of Shannara books (the original 3 (maybe the prequel as well), not that terrible 4 book follow on).

It's more sci-fi I guess but I'm gonna go with Dune.

Does Narnia count? I love me some Narnia.

LOTR and Harry Potter are probably the only two fantasy series that I've read...more than once. For that reason alone, I would have to put them at the top of my list. When I read the first three books of the song of Fire and Ice series 10 years ago, I don't ever remember having read almost 3000 pages that quickly before in my life; it was that good! Unfortunately, Martin's 5-year hiatus from the series really made it difficult for me to want to get back into it...which I still haven't, although I am following the TV series. Rounding out my top 5 would have to be TWOT (Jordan/Sanderson) and The Dresden Files (Butcher). Next on my list would have to be The Malazan Book of the Fallen series (Steven Erikson), Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms (Drizzt). So many books, so little time.

I really liked the first couple of the Sword of Truth series, although after like #3 or #4 the series got really bad.

I'm of the opinion that the function of language is to communicate (duh), so as long as the average person understands what you're saying who cares about the details. Strict ideas about grammar as we know it is actually descended from an effort by the upper classes in England designed to further marginalize the lower classes at various points throughout history. In short, don't worry on my account.
