I am always reading about music. Everything from reviews to lists to Wikipedia articles for individual Beatles songs.

There are a few bands that are always popping up as "great" that just don't work for me.

1. The Smiths
I can't stand Morrisey's voice and I do not get why everyone talks about what a great guitarist the other guy is.
The only song by them I like is "Hand in Glove".
And I do sometimes enjoy covers of their music. (Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want by the Deftones springs to mind)

2. The Velvet Underground
They just don't work for me. I love Lou Reed's solo stuff but not this. Have you heard "Sister Ray"? 17.5 minutes of ugh. And it's supposed to be one of their "good" songs.
Again there are covers of their work that I like but I don't like them.

3. Animal Collective
Everything these guys do gets mad love from the music press. To me, there is nothing redeeming for them. I've tried a few times to give them a chance but I have not found an entry point that works for me.

I can't stand Foo Fighters, to me everything they've ever done sounds the same. I get that Dave Grohl is a talented musician but I don't rate him as a singer, and Foo Fighters seems to be just him shouting over repeated chords.

Radiohead are okay, I certainly don't dislike their music, but a lot of their stuff turns up on like "Best albums of all time" lists and I don't really get that.

Wow. I didn't expect anyone to hate the Foo Fighters. They're one of the bands I list as "must see" live bands. I've seen them four or five times and each one has been better than the last.
I think he's got one of the great screams in rock music. I always viewed them more as a singles band than an albums band, but their last two releases have been really good to me front to back.

I'm not a huge fan of Radiohead post Amnesiac. It's almost like people got used to saying now fantastic they are so they just kept it up. Their latest album is rubbish to me. Of course, I said that about In Rainbows when it came out and I like it now.

Radiohead is good. I don't love them though. I tried to listen to them because Muse is heavily influenced by them, but it's not what I like.

Do you mean music that isn't necessarily commercial or "sellout" but still everyone loves? Because if it's just music that the masses love but is not good then I would have a huge list for you.

No I'm talking more about acclaimed music. The three bands I listed all have ridiculously high critical acclaim.

Jeff Buckley
I thought at one time I really enjoyed his stuff. I do like his cover of Hallelujah, but not because of him, because that's a great song.

Jack Johnson
I get that people like his 'chill', but man... it's so boring... and in more than one way. Boring in the sense that it's SO laid back that you are forced to fall asleep. In another sense he's got a lot of monotonous songs. They all sound the same.

Those are two artists I can think of at the moment. My friends love them, but I "don't get it".

Yeah I don't get Jack Johnson either. There's no dynamic element to his music. It's like a metronome.

I enjoy laid back music, but not that.

In the same way, I just don't like Ben Harper. Whith the exception of his album, White Lies for Dark Times, which I think is more due to the backing band, Relentless7. And it was a different style of music than what I'm used to from him... More bluesy rock.

I've never really been a huge fan of the Beatles. I don't have a great dislike of their music, but I don't actively listen to it. I much prefer The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, the Stones and Jimi Hendrix.

I can definitely appreciate the impact the Beatles have had on modern music though. I understand why they were such a cultural phenomenon and I can constantly see the echoes of the things they started back then. I'm glad the Beatles exist because so much music I love would not otherwise.

I'm curious how much Beatles you're familiar with. I find that when I play their music for someone who is only passingly familiar with them, I get a lot of "I didn't know this was the Beatles!"

I can't get by without Abbey Road or The White Album. I love those albums.

I never really got the Kinks. Sure they've got some songs, but I havent found an album of theirs that I like all the way through. It's complicated by the fact that they have a huge discography that is filled with some truly reviled stuff if the critics are to be believed.

I agree here. I once was like, man, Jeff Buckley is amazing until I listened to his other work.
