I love to talk about mods. For fallout 2 I just have the fallout 2 restoration project downloaded from no mutants allowed. for fallout 1 I`ve got fallout fix`t from No mutants allowed again. everything else is from the nexus. for fallout 3, the high sea caravansary, which adds a sort of pirate enclave, mart`s mutant mod adds many new monsters like the terrifying enclave deathclaw (a power armored deathclaw!) F03 wanderers edition adds features like bullet time, different leveling, and an alternate start, rts new wave lets you build your own settlement in the wasteland, apocalypse armory armory adds hundreds of new weapons, powered power armor makes power armor much more powerful, more moddable, and require batteries, mothership crew allows you to do something with the giant spaceship you`ve taken over, dcinteriors adds interiors behind all those sealed doors. a quest for heaven is an excellent puzzle and action mod with a very cool story although sadly never finished. and the librarian is an epic quest to through several great environments to rescue a girl. for fallout new vegas, project Nevada is fallout wanderers edition for new vegas with the added option of cybernetic implants, angel park is a huge area crawling with monsters and cool weapons like the em gauss rifle, momod adds more monsters, area 51 adds area 51, mo`guns and mo`gals for mo`guns and more attractive women, new vegas bounties adds a bounty hunting office and the ability to kill certain criminals for money, random encounters brings back random encounters from Fallout 1,2 a world of pain adds a huge underground and more powerful versions of monsters and weapons requiem for the capital wasteland allows you to play fallout 3 in fallout new vegas (there`s a sewer to travel between the two wastelands) although not all mods will work if you play fallout 3 this way. for oblivion fcom as an amalgamation of several overhaul mods that adds a huge amount of content. windfall adds a big detailed island in the midst of a revolution, better cities makes the cities much better, armamentarium adds more weapons and midas magic lets you summon a balrog, morph into a weretiger, and fly on the wings of an angel; unique landscapes changes all the land in oblivion. here are the names of the quest mods I use: enter the shinobi, werewolf legends, fighter guild contracts, naked nord, kraeginirs death quest, kraeginirs death quest rural line additions, feldscar, heart of the dead, origin of the mages guild, lost paladins of the divines, ungarion the welkynd sword, the lost spires, gtaesgaard, quest for the elements, the ayleid steps, Verona house bloodlines, thievery in the imperial city, ivellon, integration: the stranded light (requires other mods), tales from elsweyr anequina (requires other mods), the forgotten realm, Tears of the fiend.

mods for skyrim so far are moonpath to elsweyr, and the realms of the daedra, no mercy, sea of ghosts, secret of the dwemer, the grytewake legend, the lost legend of captain sharphook, tomb of ahranas, deadly dragons, caos quest for goldbrand, midas magic (unfinished), wars in skyrim (in development). this is the nexus: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/ for skyrim where you can find links to all other nexus sites this is no mutants allowed for the two mods I mentioned: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=811799 and http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewto ... 100#840100. to find mods on the nexus I usually google them because google works better then the search function on the site which does not correct for spelling.

mods can be a huge headache if you mess them up make sure to read to the readme on every mod you download. Useful tools are Fo3edit, FNVedit, TES4edit all of which can be found on the nexus sites.

some good rpg`s I`ve played that didn`t make the favorites are the dragon quest IV, ff the four heroes of light, golden sun 1,2; neverwinter nights, jade empire, red faction guerrilla (sort of an rpg).

I agree with reed on ff tactics. disgaea and planescape look cool although I`ve never played them.

The resolution to this comment is going to come back around to technological limitations, but I'll make it anyway. I think it's erroneous to suggest that things are "going on around" your character. Nothing happens unless you're there. The Stormcloak rebellion will never happen unless you initiate it, Ulfric and his generals will just walk around their castle grumbling forever. Its the same with the main quest, the Dragons will never become a problem unless you go through that quest line (which would be a dick move if you think about it that way). The world needs you and is stagnant without you; meanwhile, as discussed previously, it's nigh on impossible to forge a real emotional connection with it. That's not a winning combination in my mind, and a bit too much like my last girlfriend.

I've been thinking about why I felt differently about Skyrim versus other ES games and I think I figured it out. The graphics and design have progressed to the point that it's like the Uncanny Valley, but for a game world. It looks and feels so much like a real world that the fact that it doesn't operate like one has become off-putting.

the game feeling like the real world is technical limitation but also a limitation of the actual medium. the game is about the main character. the main character is the most important person there and the catalyst that makes all the other thing happen. I personally wouldn't want it any other way. I`ts relaxing to play a game where you know you can take a break to futz around the woods instead of rushing off to save the world. I hate time limits in games which seems to be what you want I know it is entirely possible to build thing`s this way e.g. 40 days storm-cloaks attack riften 50 days legion attack`s winterhold, 60 days both groups band together against dragons. these are not technical limitations they simply want the player to feel that he is the center of the universe which he is. most people do not want video games to be like real life where they often ave no control over events imagine the backlash Bethesda would receive if, when your character was busy becoming arch mage, dragons destroyed the entire province or the rebels and legion banded together and defeated the dragon threat without you. you would feel insignificant in a type of game where you are supposed to be the most significant element.

That is one thing I like about Bethesda is their support of modding communities. While all the other companies out there are locking down their games to a crazy degree, Bethesda really opens it up for people to be able to change and make the gaming experience better.
I agree but their not perfect. they strung us along for a long time on when the creation kit was coming out. so long that their is a fanmade creation kit for skyrim for people who couldn`t wait. the reason for this delay (or the most popular theory about the reason) was integration into the steam network for uploading, which people didn`t want, didn`t need and were pretty upset about. a lot of people think it`s a prelude to steam charging for mods and killing old sites such as the nexus plus their dlc is a timed exclusive for the 360 which means I have to wait a month to get it. Bethesda is all in all better then their competition at dealing with consumers, particularly when it comes to modding but then the kind of games they usually make (sandbox rpg`s) particularly lend themselves to modding. you see all that empty space and feel the urge to fill it with ruins and knights and dragons and quests. I think bethesda is the only company that makes a true open world rpg and I have a deep respect for what they do.

I can't push Disgaea series enough. If you like to grind, it is unequaled. Levels go to not 999 but 9999! It's over 9000!

And the most moddiest game I'm familiar with: Freedom Force. A psychotic and talented fanbase. I never saw anything like it, and I don't expect to again. Until we start programming holodecks or something.

If you like quirky anime stylings, an over the top story, lots of items and classes and a neverending grind where you still manage to feel like you're doing something, check out Disgaea and its sequels and related titles. Tactical RPG fans especially should check it out.

I would have to say Kingdom Hearts is the best I've ever played.
One of the oddest crossovers but for some reason it works really well!

Rocket Racoon mentioned Golden Sun earlier. I loved those games so much, especially the second one. They might be the most beautiful games I've played on a handheld, and the dungeons and puzzles were all so well designed. I also loved the class system with all the different combinations of Djinn, it was really worth experimenting. The characters and story were so compelling, it was awesome to play as the villains from the first game in the second to see their side of the story. I heard there was a new one coming out, but not for a system I have.
