I've been playing a lot of Skyrim and I'm considering trying out Oblivion. It's about $10 on Half.com right now. Is it worth it, or do you guys think I'll be underwhelmed after playing Skyrim?

I know DLC is coming out soon too, but I'm still interested.

Its different. The interface is a lot simpler, and the graphics are older. But honestly, I liked the story in oblivion better then sykrim.

There is a story in Oblivion? I always forget about that....
I guess the open-worldedness won't feel so novel, but it is a pretty great game. I've only got 2 hours or so logged in Skyrim so I can't really compare them...
The class system in Oblivion feels more open to me, so if that's of interest to you, it's worth it. Oblivion is one of the few games that I just kept starting over to try a different class.

I'm sure this isn't news to anyone, but JIC, save before you exit the tutorial dungeon so that you don't have to go back and do that all over again if you want to try a different class.

Yea, the story can get muddled in the giant world, but the evil plot trying to take down the kingdom, stuff with the blades.

And yea, they do open world way better the Skyrim. Skirym kind of directs you to locations, Oblivion you just wander around forever.

it's worth it on the pc for the mods. check this out http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/convergence.html without mods oblivion is alright but not something I would spend hours on. the, main quest as mentioned, as mentioned, is forgettable. Best part of the game for me was the thieves guild questline, and the mages guild questline, oh, and the stuff with umbaccanno and the ayleids. I would recommend buying the game of the year edition as the dlc knights of nine and the shivering isles is better then most of the main game.

The saddlebags mod was what made oblivion playable for me. Wish I had it for Skyrim. Inventory management kills me.

There's a good inventory mod for Skyrim: SkyUI (+ Better Sorting)

Not sure if something better came up in the meantime, haven't played for a while.

Wish mods were available on the X-Box, since that is where I have been playing it.

Don't mean to tease you, but this game really improves with so many great mods. There's even some kind of official support through Steam Workshop. If you're into this game for a long term, you should keep an eye open for a week-end deal or something like that. You can pimp the shit out of this game.

Oblivion is probably my favourite game ever. I loved Skyrim, but I think Oblivion just came along at the right time in my life.

I have almost certainly played it more than any other singleplayer game. We're talking 500+ hours. There are some incredible mods out there, too, which bring it a lot closer to today's standards as well as fix some of the game's annoying quirks.

Keep an eye out on Steam, next time there's a sale it will almost certainly turn up.
