It's that time again. My wife made me do 8 pumpkins (so far) this year. Here they are...

It's really pretty easy if you have a steady hand and a lot of patience. Just go to a site like zombiepumpkins.com and download some pumpkin stencils, print them out. Then tape one to a pumpkin and use one of those little saws that come with the crappy pumpkin carving kits that you would buy in a store to carefully cut out the pattern. I didn't think I would be able to do it at first either. But then I tried my hand at it and it turns out that it's not as hard as you would think :)

I live in a country that doesn't really do Halloween, and so mine tend to be some of the only proper carved pumpkins in town, which is why I stick to these rules:

* Patterns are cheating -- design from scratch with a marker on the pumpkin.
* Keep it simple -- I always forget to order more specific pumpkin tools online in time, so I'm working with a somewhat unsubtle saw.
* Classical designs only -- ghosts, bats, pumpkin faces, cats, witches, monsters, that kind of thing. (Nothing you can't explain to a 5-year old.)

Anyway:

But the rule of life is...if you aren't cheating, you aren't doing it right :)

Where I live in the UK, Halloween is dying. Last few years there's been so little celebration of the event, its not even been worth stocking up for trick or treaters. Never seen any decorations or carved pumpkins in my town. Already seeing some Christmas decorations which is a little depressing.
