The previous thread has gots me thinkin. Anyone else enjoy the soothing taste of cold beer? I consider myself a bit of a beer snob. I'm not really snobby, per se... but I definitely enjoy GOOD beer.

Some of my favorites are some local "micro brews" around my home. A few breweries I enjoy the most are Deschutes and Widmer. Overall my absolute favorite, my default, my go to, my luxury is Black Butte Porter by Deschutes. Mmm, it's like candy. My wife eats chocolate ice cream and I pour myself a glass of Black Butte.

Widmer makes some awesome IPAs and even better seasonals. Right now I'm actually drinking an Okto Fest by Widmer. It's really malty crispy Bavarian October Fest style beer. Very tasty.

My everyday beer is Miller Lite.

I really enjoy Höegarden and Leffe Blond lately.

My bar has the Blue Moon and Sam Adams seasonals on tap right now. They're both pretty good but I'd rather have a reguar Sams.

I also really like red beers but don't know too many brands besides Killians. Two bars in the area have red beers on tap that trump Killians though.

The Boston Lager is really good from Sam Adams.

I'm not a big fan of hard alcohol. I have had a few whiskeys, but probably nothing "good". I've had some Jack Daniels and a few different rums... but I'm not a big fan of that hard taste. I'm not big on getting drunk either, so I can enjoy more beer than I can liquor before feeling the effects.

I hate, hate, hate whiskey. I have not been able to develope a taste for it. I'm jealous of people who can drink it.

Have you had a good sipping whiskey. Jack is considered a sipping whiskey officially, but it is a lot harsher. George Dickel #12 or Makers Mark (easier to find) are a lot smoother. the key is to drink them straight, but slowly sipping them. No ice, it will just water it down.

Same can be said for Taquilla. While generally it is harsh like drain cleaner, if you get a really nice bottle, it can be really smooth and easy to drink straight.

The key to good liquor is to find one you enjoy and drink slowley. Not slam them back as shots. Unless your goal is to get drunk.

Edit
But whiskey...yea, there is a man's drink.

LOVE IT. But only available in Germany in some parts of Rhineland-Palatinate. :P

It may be a sterotype, but I have never met someone from Germany who did not love beer.

True, I've only had whiskey as a shot. But just the smell of it makes me gag.
I've had Wild Turkey, Jack, Jim, Johnny (black AND blue) and none of it has worked for me.

I used to really like tequila but I'm pretty over it. Even patron doesn't really do it for me.

I bought a moderately nice bottle of tequila last year and tried to developed a sipping taste for it but was still not feeling it.

Best tequila shot I've ever had:
Jose Cuervo Reserve de la Familia
