I agree 100% with this article on why basic income is necessary. But I'm a lot less certain it will actually happen. It seems to me that the people with the most money have a vested interest in making sure it doesn't.

Any country implementing this right would be the closest to utopia I think there can really be, which is why it will never happen.

I don't think it'll necessarily never happen. But I think automation has to proceed a bit further first. Widespread automated vehicles probably needs to happen first

"No. I know Hamlet. And what he might say with irony I say with conviction. "What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty. In form, in moving, how express and admirable. In action, how like an angel. In apprehension, how like a god...""

If you went back in time it would be incredibly hard to deal with the health/cleanliness standards, especially with food, people around you being openly treated horribly, lobotomies, even more oppressive religion, etc. It would kinda suck. And if you tried to point out all these things you would probably be assassinated or locked away.

Well yeah, it's a great place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there.

Quite.

If I could there is a list as long as my leg* that I would go and see. I could not care less about seeing the pyramids, but I would definitely go and see them being built.

* I know the saying is arm, but my leg is longer so its even more.

A woman is campaigning to keep the killer of her baby alive. She wants him to rot in prison for the rest of his life, instead of getting the death penalty.
I disagree with this, and here's why. A lot of people have managed to have almost normal lives in prison. People have written books, made friends, even got married and had kids. When you're in prison for the rest of your life, you have decades to come to terms with what you've done, find religion, and be confident that you'll go to heaven when you die.
If any of us died today, I think we would be much more terrified. Terrified that we had unfinished business, that we would go to hell. That we would be punished for eternity in the afterlife. I think that's worse punishment than being cared for the rest of your life.
A lot of people keep going to prison, over and over. It can't be that bad. I've known people that are career prisoners, and they don't seem that much worse off than some people I know.
