Where the hell would you start? They don't even use the same alphabet.

Chinese has an alternate written form called pinyin, which writes out Chinese words in the Roman alphabet. What I wrote in the post just above, Ni Hao, is pinyin for the Chinese word for hello.

Also as an example, in my home we write and speak in a mixture of Chinese and English.

Okay, I'm with you, but isn't that just using 'foreign' words in English? Like how we use the word 'picnic' which is a French word?

I guess, but Pinyin is officially recognized. It was made by the Chinese government to facilitate trade I believe. Also, I am leaving out the accent marks which there are a lot of in pinyin, which relate a words tone (and changes the meaning of a word).

But considering it was made by the Chinese themselves, and is a roman character version of their spoken language and not a series of borrowed words, I would say its different.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well. What I meant is if you combine English and Chinese into one language written in the roman alphabet, it's basically English with some different vocabulary thrown in.

That's a pretty self-centered way of viewing it.

No no, far from it.

If the reverse was true, English words translated into Chinese characters and mixed in with Chinese words then I would be saying that it wasn't a mix of english and Chinese, but Chinese with English vocabulary thrown in.
