I am amazed by some of the marketing tie-ins companies come up with. The one that always floors me is branded purfume/cologn. It seems every celebrity is trying to make their own fragrance. Who is buying this crap.

That may seem out of the blue, but I read there is an Avengers cologne coming out to tie into the movie. WTF? They see a lot of comic fans rushing out to get this?

It was bad enough when it was just cereal and fruit snacks!

Maybe I don't really pay attention to advertising, but I don't think that happens to the levels you're talking about in England. Sure we get the occasional celebrity cologne, but not a huge number.

You mean you don't have Kim Kardashian brand anything and everything over there? Oh, you poor people...

How do you know what to buy if everything isn't "celebrity" endorsed????

Yeah, it's pretty stressful. I end up only buying things I actually want or need. It's becoming a real problem for me.

We get that TV show.. Keeping Up With the Kardashians or whatever? Never watched it though.

To be honest, I'm different from most people in that I actually go to great lengths to avoid advertising. I imagine I am exposed to only 10-20% of the stuff that a normal person is.

It's not that I hate advertising on principle, or I think it shouldn't exist at all. A lot of people whose work I really enjoy get a lot (If not all) of their money as a result of advertising. Just, you know, I prefer when I don't see it.

It's funny, I see a small percentage of commercials because I don't have cable, but sometimes it puts me at a disadvantage because I don't know what movies are coming out, for example. (Obviously I still hear about the BIG ones: Avengers, etc.)

In fact the only commercials I usually see are during sporting events that I go to bars to watch. But I attended an NFL game hybrid season and saw more commercials AT the game than I do when I watch the game.

That's got to be rough... Only buying what you want/need.

Even the stadiums are commercials. Here is Houston we have Minute Made Field, Reliant (its the big local energy company) stadium, and the Toyota Dome.

And your right, went to a Texans game last season and you had the Doritos update, Sonic Drive-Thru play of the game, Bank of America highlight. Sports has become like a Nascar, covered in logos.

Haha I had no idea what Reliant was.

I love football, probably more than I should, but one game a year is enough for me to attend.

Let's not forget the Heinz Ketchup Red Zone!!
