A bit similar from the last thread.... Why did you start reading comics.

I loved drawing so I really got into reading comics to help that. I've always loved them!

Well, when I started it was purely because I was young, I had free time, what else could I do. Being Spanish, the comics I read were from the in-house kids comics' geniuses (Ibáñez, Escobar). Never really got into serious work from here.
Talking about Marvel, and foreign titles in general, it came just because I started watching super hero movies in mass, last year. My curiosity grew up quickly.

Also because I was young and had free time. It was something I would read and my parents wanted to encourage reading. I think many started as kids, and gets into my distribution post in the when did you start reading thread.

I didn't really get into comics until around September or November of 2010. I watch Linkara and read some of what's going on in comics, but never picked up an actual comic. I got the first issue in the Ratchet & Clank comic series, then got the trade last June. In terms of "real" comics, I got the first Ultimate Spider-Man Ultimate Collection, since Spidey is my favorite superhero. I got Carnage: Family Feud a few days ago, and that's really my first foray into mainstream comic universes, even if it's a mini-series.

As for why, I've been a fan of comic book characters since I was growing up, but I never really cared to get any actual comics. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has helped get me interested in the characters, and so I decided that I wanted to finally start picking up comics.

GI Joe primarily, Marvel trading cards being the other reason. They were something a 9 year old kid couldn't ignore.

I do remember GI Joe and Transformers being badass when I as a kid. I have avoided revisiting them, because they can't possibly live up to my memory of them.

I just loved Xmen and so did all of my friends, we used to pretend we were different characters and I was always wolverine. It just became an addiction like any other, there was always something new around the corner.

I got into reading comics because of all of the TV/Movie adaptions (My favorite was always Spider-man) and when I saw that the UK was getting a GN series with all the best Marvel stories from the last 30 years I could not refuse.

I guess for me it all started when I got into Anime in my mid-teens. That moved to manga and naturally progressed to comics.

I really wasn't aware how deep comic book universes actually go until one day I remember I looked up the Hulk on Wikipedia... and there was this huge synopsis of his life, and all his different incarnations like "Savage Hulk", "The Professor", "Joe Fixit", etc. It made me think it would actually be something I could seriously get into, so I did. :D

It amazes me how deep Marvel is. I am not sure if it is just me, but I would say Marvel has a deeper history then any other comic "universe". Maybe its cause the continuity never broke apart like it did with DC.
