I was looking through some issues from 2005 and 2007 and I keep seeing something. New series will run for a few issues, and then arbitrarily they will renumber the series. Thor (2007) goes 1-12, then the next issue is 600. And they harold that issue as "the 600th issue". Can you proclaim a milestone, when the milestone is arbitrary?

Just stupid.

Also the 1963 Run of Amazing Spider-Man stops for 20 years as they go on to new volumes and what not, just to pick back up at an arbitrary later number.

It's not so much arbitrary as just annoying. In those instances where a title was started with a new volume, it reverts as if the numbering had never changed. So if a title ended at 250, then vol. 2 ran 24 issues, when it reverts it would be issue 275.

It's not arbitrary tho is it? It's like when thor takes of from journey into mystery, they don't start at issue 1, they just keep the numbering going. So if they run a series until issue 200, then do a 20 issue run replacing it for 2 years and then pick up the main title again it will start at 221.

It's not arbitrary, there is a reason, it just a ****ing stupid reason.

I'm going to start using that as an answer to queries about how something works from our support department.

But in case my example was too obtuse...

When did this happen? I know they started a Volume 2 in the 90s, but that reverted back to the original numbering in time for issue 500.
I wasn't aware of a 20 year gap (unless that was hyperbole, in which case you didn't use the correct font color)
