Do you prefer to read your comics in digital or print form? I read either and don't really care, but my friend Brian insists on reading them all in print form. He says digital just isn't the same.

I totally agree. I guess I'm from the old school when I much prefer to have the print form instead of the digital. I just feel like you miss a lot if you can't hold that comic book in your hand. Like I said, I'm from the old school.

Yeah, I also am an old school guy who prefers to read hard printed comics. Digital comics are great but to be honest, reading them is not like reading "real" comics.

I recently found a super high quality scan of House of M. It looks better than even the comic books that I have of it. It looks incredibly vibrant.

Also, with a digital copy you can zoom in on panels and background details.

Have any of you seen the "Infinite Comics" Marvel has released?
I actually bought the most recent one (an interlude from AvX) on the Marvel app for $2. That is the future- it's an amazing step forward. It looks similar to some of the "wide screen" scans that are out ther only better.

I get wanting to hold it in your hand, but Marvel is actively working to add value to being able to read comics online. It's pretty exciting.

I think what I'm going to say might have been discussed before, but maybe somewhere else...
Anyhow, one of the scans I came across of the Old Man Logan part is edited in a very pleasing manner. On some of the pages of the comic the panels are small and show action happening over time (walking closer for instance) and the scanner actually blacked out the panels, revealing them one by one on successive pages, the end effect being almost cinematic.

This is one of the things print comics can't do without a lot more cost added (and the effect wouldn't be the same with page turns). But I don't see many scanners putting in that kind of effort anyway, so perhaps the point is moot.

As to the question, digital is fine for me. I have a fairly large physical book library, but I have a lot of ebooks too (admittedly, the method for obtaining them is not quite kosher). Most often I use them to sample the books, then go out and buy the good series. There are many benefits and few drawbacks to digital.

Irish, what you describe is usually labeled a widescreen scan, like I mentioned above.
The Infinite Comics that Marvel has been promoting are actually created that way. You should check em out.

These are features I really enjoy when reading digital versions, although I also still like holding the comic in my hand and just peering at the background really closely. :D I think both formats have their pros and cons, which is why I don't have a strong preference for either at this point.

I'm siding with digital. I don't mind having a physical collection, but to actually read the comics, I would rather digital. I don't have to worry about damaging it as I read (or my kid damaging it), and if I'm traveling, I can take all my comics with me on my external hard drive.

I'm a digital guy myself. Easier to store and you really don't lose that much compared to the real thing.

It's a tough call, really. I go through the old 25-cent bin at a local used book store and buy random issues of series I'm interested in. They have a pretty large selection, and most of the comics are from the 80's, a few late 70's, and the odd early 90's. Just today I came home with 62 assorted issues for $7.75 (they were half price today!). The trouble is, it can be hard to find all the issues you want, it's from a limited era, and the condition ranges from pretty darn decent to almost falling apart.

Assuming I have access to either format for a given issue though, I'd probably choose the print version. It's the real deal, reading them the way they were read a few decades ago when they first came out. I can take them on the go and read on the bus or even just lie down on the couch and read, instead of sitting in front of my computer. I don't have a tablet computer or anything, which might change my opinion though.

On the other hand, reading on the computer, it's easier to see the detail since scans are usually high quality and I don't have to squint. I don't have to hunt through a pile of physical comics to find the one I want. And of course, they don't have to take up all kinds of physical space!
