Kinda confusing, but I believe the Valkyries in Incredible Hulk #142 and Defenders #4 aren't the same character.

As I understand it, the one in Hulk is "Samantha Parrington", merely a vessel for the Valkyrie powers who is manipulated by Enchantress.. whereas the one in Defenders #4 is actually the real Valkyrie (Brunnhilde) possessing a human form.

Samantha Parrington
Brunnhilde

Samantha Parrington later obtains powers and becomes "Valkyrie" but as far as I know she is still distinct from the one in Defenders #4.

I read it as the same person possessing two different girls...did I read it wrong? Should they be split?

I think Doctor Strange v2 49-55 should go between Defenders v1 103 and 104.

Clea has an adventure with the Defenders in 103—she then goes on an adventure with Doctor Strange in 49 that is an essentially unbroken block of time right up through her departure to the Dark Dimension in 53 (her appearance in 54 is a flashback)—and then she is conspicuously absent beginning in Defenders 104 onwards. A footnote in 104 says "obviously, some weeks have passed since last issue", and Clea's departure is explicitly mentioned by Hellcat in Defenders 109.

Edited to add: I include Doctor Strange 55 in the span of time between Defenders 103 and 104 since a reference is made to the Defenders lineup (ca. issue 104, minus the Beast, who "joins" in the events of 104) at that time.

Hmm.. it's a tough one. I think it turns out later that Enchantress has the Valkyrie trapped somewhere and can project her powers onto people at will.

She does it in #142 on Samantha Parrington, but it quickly wears off. However, Samantha Parrington does actually later acquire the Valkyrie powers and joins the Defenders for a while... so I think she should definitely be listed.

In Defenders #4, Enchantress again gives someone Valkyrie powers, but this time she doesn't reverse it and the true Valkyrie's powers and personality occupy the person from then on.

It would probably be easiest to list Valkyrie in both, but also add Samantha Parrington to the listing for Hulk #142.

This is true. The specifics are spelled out (pun sort-of intended) in Defenders v1 #108-109, if you're interested.

Samantha Parrington doesn't become a Valkyrie again until Defenders v2 #2, published in 2001. That's a long way off from where the CMRO is at now... but yeah, if we're being future-minded, Samantha Parrington should have an entry, much in the same way Brandy Clark does; Clark would not become Starshine until long into her run of appearances in ROM, but the image that represents her is of her Starshine armor.

Sort of. Enchantress traps Brunnhilde's soul in Barbara Norriss's body, and vice versa—but since Brunnhilde's body is in the custody of the Enchantress, we don't actually see her/it until Defenders v1 #66.

I think the fix here is to have the "Valkyrie" entry refer to appearances of Brunnhilde's soul and to maintain separate entries for the souls of Parrington and Norriss as appropriate. In addition to the appearances currently listed for Barbara Norriss, she appears in Defenders v1 66, 67, 68, 107, and 108.

Definitely keep Valkyrie as having appeared in Hulk v2 #142 since (a) it is Valkyrie's first appearance, which is significant and (b) even though it is the body of Parrington that is being possessed, it could be said that it is Brunnhilde's soul that has taken possession under the control of the Enchantress.

Valkyrie's kind of the best, isn't she?

An unrelated note of correction: Jiamine Szardos, Morgana Blessing, Sara Wolfe, Wong, Clea, Margali, and Hannibal King appear as supporting characters in Doctor Strange v2 #58. Umar appears as a villain.

I think I will list each separately, as who physically there, not the soul. so Hulk gets Pennington, early avengers gets Norris. I am going to change the lists so the character listed as the actual Valkyrie is Brunnhilde.

hmm, nope, that doesn't work. Yea, I am going to have to list Valkyrie, and the other two seperately when their "souls" appear

I was just looking through some comics I purchased when I was a kid and one of them is the trade titled X-Men: Rarities. It reprints some obscure comics starring X characters (e.g., Bizarre Adventures 27 with Iceman, an original story from Classic X-Men 1). Particularly interesting is that it reprints a story from Amazing Adult Fantasy 14 titled "The Man in the Sky!" This is a pre-X-Men story about a mutant. The main character, Tad Carter, shows up again in later stories (link), so that shows that this story is part of the 616 continuity. Consequently, shouldn't this story in AAF 14 be added to the Order?

It does look like this story was brought to modern times and should be in the order (however the story was changed, the original character from JIM was Ted Lenstrom. They changed his name for the man in the sky, also changed the story title. It was originall the Man with the Atomic Brain)

That would mean that that AFF rather than JIM is the canonical version, correct?
