Welcome, and Enjoy your reading. Are you just now starting issue #1 or are you a little into it?

Let us know what you think (if you look around the forums, you will see hate for some titles, love for others).

I'm only on the first page at the moment! I've had the Marvel digital subscription for some time now and have read through a few of the more modern series as well as a handful of older blocks for more well known characters.

So I figured I should really get my money's worth along with satisfying my need for not missing anything by starting at the beginning! I'm 26 so it's mind blowing to think of what it would be like to be a kid reading these stories back in the '60s.

I was never really into heroes other than Batman and X-Men (from the animated series) growing up, but I love films and when good superhero films started to be made the two sort of blended and now I'm in love with the whole world these characters inhabit. Therefore I'm interested to read some of the lesser known titles and will soldier on through anything that might not grab me right away - I just love the way everything links in the universe (which is why I'm loving the Marvel films at the moment)!

You are in for something then. A lot has happened over the years.

And, as you get through the first 300, don't get discouraged. It gets rough in there for a while (was cutting edge at the time, but not all of it holds up), but stick with it. It gets pretty good as you get into the lat 60's and into the 70's and 80's.

I'm getting close to the death of Gwen Stacy, I'm looking forward to that as I feel it'll be a personal milestone. After her death i think the next major milestone will be the New X-Men. What other milestone moments has anyone else encounters or is looking forward to?

I just got to the first Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD, which was a mini-milestone for me, but the big milestone I'm keeping my eyes on is Galactus. It's good to set an issue or arc like that to keep your nose to the grindstone.

I have had a couple. First appearance of Galactus was pretty big for me. First appearance of Iron Man and Captain America. I think my next 2 big ones are the same as yours. Death of Gwen Stacy and Giant-Size X-Men #1.

I'm looking forward to reading Secret Wars again. I read it last year when I was reading only Spider-Man stories and I'm guessing about 95% of what was going was lost on me at the time. I think it will be interesting to read it again having followed all the characters involved up to that point.

New X-men--I've read these before, but it's been a while and I'm definitely looking forward to re-reading them.
Iron-Man--battle with alcoholism, I'm hoping it's not cheesy.
Moon Knight--Never read a page of these, but he seems to be popular.
Byrne run on FF--I owned all these in the 80s and haven't read them since.
ROM--Of course I've mentioned this one before.
Secret Wars--I remember this being big, but I never read it.

Well, I suppose I might as well share what I'm up to and why I'm here.

I'm still quite early on, just getting into the second half of '63 right now, and only reading Fantastic Four, Strange Tales, Amazing Spider-Man, and The Incredible Hulk at the moment. I do plan on going back and picking up some of the series I'm skipping over for the mean time though, particularly Iron Man and Avengers. I'm basically reading one issue each day, but I tend to take my time reading it and soaking it in. Is it cheesy by today's standards? Of course. But that's okay. I allow myself to get into the perspective of the 60's (as best I can -- I was born in the 80's).

I never was into comics until a little while ago. I got into Japanese manga in my mid-teens, but never even gave western comics a second thought. To be honest, what got me thinking about them was primarily The Big Bang Theory and, surprisingly, memories of watching the Simpsons in the late 90's and early 00's. I walked into a local comic shop about two months ago totally unprepared -- I had no idea what I was looking for, what was out there, any of that. Of course I was familiar with some of the popular figures like Spider-Man, Batman, and so on from cartoons, movies, and general popularity, but I'd be at a loss to tell you much about them, or whether they belonged to Marvel or DC, or anything. I decided to take a look at their origins to begin, so I found the shelf displaying all the Marvel Essentials books (and DC's equivalent, whatever it's called), but I was just overwhelmed by the number of choices. In the end, I left without buying anything. But I went back and picked up the first volume of Fantastic Four on a friend's recommendation, and what a great place that was to start, seeing as how it's also the very beginning of the Order on this site! And well, now I'm on my way into a really intriguing world I totally missed out on during my childhood!

Take a look at the essential order. It skips the random issues that aren't a big part of the overall marvel universe. A good way to read though without reading tens of thousands of issues.
