I think the star system works out all right in aggregate even if different members have their own rating scale.

That's right. No prompting. Give as many stars as You believe it should have and not one less or more.
I'm ahead and the only person rating previously was Travis so it would be easy to copy him, but I said NO. At least twice I gave 4 stars where he gave 2 and I'm proud of myself.

Well, in fairness, I am in the 60's so what do I do when the aerage writing gets a lot better. I can't give everything 5 stars. I'm still taking era into consideration, but I want to leave room or improvement.

1 - Terrible, wanted to stop reading before it ended
2 - Bad, bored or otherwise irritated me
3 - Alright, I experienced no desire to break my screen during this issue
4 - Good, I was entertained by this issue
5 - Wow, did something which I thought advanced the title character or other significant character in a significant way

A bonus star is awarded for every time I laugh, and I mean actually laugh, not lol as in "hi lol", even if this is me laughing because it is terrible, i.e. An issue containing Plantman gets an extra point because he defeats the Human Torch using dew as a weapon

A star is lost for repeating the exact same thing in different stories with a realistic chance that said thing will happen, i.e. all the times Aunt May could find out Peter is Spiderman or Pepper could find out Tony is Iron Man.

It doesn't really work like that. Things don't just suddenly get a ton better. It's gradual, so you will always end up rating things against the other comics of their era rather than those of the past so any adjustments that you might have to make will happen without you even realizing it.

I can see your point there. I'm not going to mentally break in and say hey it's the 70's things are automatically better.

I'd say as things go along, bad is still there, but bad evolves.

Is that a good thing?

I see a lot of people use the story and the script as the basis of the rating, but do any of you guys use the art as well? For me
It's a major factor.
