Hi all-

Just doing my intro bit. My name is Brett, I'm 36, and am a computer programmer/tech guy. I work for a consulting firm out of Virginia, and do most of my work for NASA's Earthdata and Earth Sciences projects, in everything from Ruby on Rails to Java to PHP. I've also written a bunch of techie books (you can find me on Amazon.com under "Brett McLaughlin").

Of course, all of this is just the means to an end, right? Ha... it lets me work out (I love TaeKwon-Do and am halfway to my first degree black belt) and sneak in more than my fair share of comic book reading. I'm also married and have three kids, and both of my boys (10 and 9) are comic book lovers, coming mostly from the Marvel movies as of late.

Personally, I grew up on the X-Men, from around the Mutant Massacre up to the Age of Apocalypse, or around there. I'm now going back to the beginning. My personal comic box is a mix of the Essentials along with X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four all-inclusive (I love X-Men, I am growing to love Avengers, and while I'm not yet a huge fan of the FF, they're so core to the universe that I'm just sucking it up to read them all). I'm early on, but couldn't make nearly the progress I am without the CMRO.

That's the big stuff... hello everyone, hope to help with continuity and lists and whatever else I can as needs arise.

-Brett

Kudos to anyone not afraid to put their name in the topic title. Welcome!
Your comic box sounds something like my original plan, but then I broke down and decided to read every disgusting page!
Don't get discouraged, no matter where you are, there are great stories ahead if you just keep reading. :D .

Welcome, and enjoy your reading. While I am also reading everything, don't let us talk you into it. Read what you want, remember, this is supposed to be fun :)

On a non-Marvel, non-print-comic note, do you read XKCD? It's a web comic that, acording to your discription, could have been written just for you. "A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language." ...but is more science (the author also worked for NASA for a while) and computer programing recently as well. Fun stuff. XKCD.com

...

Also, welcome!

You know, the first couple of ant-man books were bad. Even the not good ones weren't terrible. It wasn't till the Wasp showed up that those books took a nose dive.

Welcome. Don't be afraid to suggest additions to the essentials, those who read them frequently find them sparse. Your history makes me feel like an underachiever. Unless I lie... OK guys I know you've been led to believe I'm a university student but I'm really an immortal who invented coffee and wool; and the Roman Empire? Well lets just say I had a hand in it.
