When I look on the CA #1 page, it shows two entries:

Red Skull
Red Skull (George Maxon)

But on the CA #3 page, I only see:

Red Skull

I was expecting to see the listing as "Red Skull (George Maxon)". But yes, clicking through on that character does show that it's the George Maxon version.

I guess there's some logic where it only displays the detailed version when there are two characters with the same name? I thought it used to say (for example) "Captain America (Jeffrey Mace)" on its own when it was different than the standard version, but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

It's something done manually. Sometimes the person adding characters is in a hurry and forgets to change the way the name is displayed on that issue. Probably why you so times see it and sometimes not.

For aesthetics reason, I usually don't put the parenthesis part in the display name, unless more than one version of the same character or more than one character with the same alias appear in the same issue.

Someone who is OCD could probably program the database so that it adds the distinction if there are two characters with the same name on the same page. But then again, it probably doesn't matter 99.9% of the time. Just throws me off when you have multiple Caps and Buckys.

True, but the index page is already doing 200 things, tracking last and next read, yours and everyone elses reading, rating, favoring, tracking creators, tracking groups and equipment, location, dealing with hidden tags, cameo tages, etc etc etc.

So I made it manual rather than automatic, along with dozens of other things I made manual instead of automatic, to try and keep the issue detail page from loading any slower and bogging the site down any more.

Because names are just, is someone else with a similar name attached, it also has to see if those people are using aliases and if those aliases have different pictures, if we need to hid the picture of that character because their a spoiler, if its the first appearance, if its the last appearance, if they are a member of a group.

You have to pick and chose your battles.

I know, you’re already doing a million things, and I hope my comments didn’t come across as critical in any way! The site is such a fantastic resource, and I’m really just nitpicking because that’s the kind of thing I would waste too much time obsessing over.

Suggestion for an incorrectly added character pic

U.S.A. Comics #3a
Thie picture used here for General Garvey is wrong. This is Admiral Leeds. Garvey is the one with brown hair as illustrated on page 15.

Also

Marvel Mystery Comics #28b
Baby Dean McCarthy (Betty's sister) and her husband Chuck should be created and listed here. They appear only once, Baby's connection to a major character should be enough.

This is a correct suggestion.
The current picture for General Garvey shows Admiral Leeds.
The picture of General Garvey from page 15 kind of sucks though.
Page 5, panel 2, has a better picture. I'm pretty sure Garvey is the man on the top-left. Without hat, without mustache, with hair on top of his head.

I know we generally don't list "Satan" types characters If we don't know which is it (Mephisto, Murdok Kurios, lucypher, etc etc) but I done reasearch and I believe we should make an exception for the "Satan" who created Black Widow

He is not one-appearance type of character
And since he is mentioned in Black Widow's handbook entry and not revealed to be one of those other guys I am sure he is none of them, but separate entity who deserves listing (under "Satan (Black Widow creator)")

I will add him next time I do additions for characters listing...

Submitted Corrections

All-Winners Comics (v1) #6d
I don't think General Haywood is in this story. Last time Avison drew him, he had no moustache. And Duffy calls the man "Major".

Captain America Comics #21a
Sgt. Mike Duffy appears in this issue and should be listed as such.
