I really liked it. And, it adds a whole lot to Spark of Rebellion. Especially when he you hear the Obi-Wan message the first time in the cartoon. Having heard Kanan talk about it/think about it, it gave those scenes a lot more weight. Also, Hera and Kenan were a lot more interesting together in the cartoon having their backstory.

Yeah, Hera is my favorite from the cartoon, and I agree that her relationship with Kanan feels so much more real knowing how they met... even though they really push Ezra as the 'star' of the show, it is obvious that these two are who really hold the team together.....

even Count Vidian wasn't bad... that one scene with the acid was horrific.... and while he is a one-off villian, his name comes up periodically in later novels.....

My one complaint is, in the book they push Kanan's extreme reluctance to show his abilities, and then in Spark of Rebellion, he just jumps up and is all "hey, over here guys"

In fairness it's set six years before the show. I can easily imagine how spending six years shifting away from being alone and just trying to hide to actively fighting the empire in a rebel cell could change his reluctance a bit.
