Maybe my memory is just failing, but I seem to remember there being an ongoing topic somewhere on the forum here where readers could ask each other if some of those really REALLY hard to find comics were out there somewhere. Is that around somewhere?

I'm slowly, slowly reading through the Expanded Order and I find it very frustrating when I can't find comics that look like they might be interesting. Specifically, I don't know if I'm just looking in the wrong places, but I cannot find any Joker Comics, the first series in the Romance Order.

Is there somewhere on the site where readers help other readers find some of those hard-to-find books?

Of course! I'm not soliciting for pirated media specifically here. I hope that's not the impression. I just thought there was a thread with readers discussing availability of the more elusive books.

I'm fairly certain Joker Comics is probably in the public domain, meaning distribution of scans would be perfectly legal, but you're right, I've never seen scans or anything, even issues for sale anywhere. The existence of the Batman character doesn't make a search any easier, either.

What makes you think that? Marvel was good about renewing their golden age copyrights. Joker Comics is listed in the 1970 copyright renewal records*. Unless they were published without a proper copyright notice (I don't have scans on hand to check, though I did for some issues at one point so some are out there) they're still copyrighted. Barring a change in copyright law Joker Comics won't start going in the public domain until 2037.

*It merely says "consult copyright office" but that's because of a dispute by the Copyright Office over how Marvel chose to file the works when they renewed them. A court ultimately sided with Marvel and the renewals are valid.

Whoops, no, you're right. I hadn't actually checked who'd published Joker Comics, and had filed the title away as yet another Golden Age long-dead publisher obscurity.
