I do hope, if there are future books, he follows up with the trees.

The whole debate on sentience thing was interesting and I'd honestly like to know more about them. I can't seem to remember if this is anything brought from future Star Trek stuff, like the crash of the Horizion.

I think the trees were new, and yeah, I'd like to know what they find out about them.

I just finished Patterns of Interference, and I really liked this series.
What I liked most is that it (in my view) successfully managed to tell a cohesive story across multiple books, while still allowing each book to be (more or less) standalone. To me if felt like a plausible 5th or 6th season of the show.

With regards to Trio's storyline I liked that
the success in the last book wasn't due to schemes.
And that his approach to fix the problems just made things worse
. It felt like an appropriate end to his adventures.

P.s. this also means that I finished the Enterprise section of the order. Time to move on to the TOS era, and from what I understand: I don't have the best literary works of all time ahead of me :/

I agree it felt like an additional season to the show, that's what I really liked about it.

As for TOS books. You might, or might not like the vanguard books. Some people really like them, but I hated them. The Chris Pike & robert April era books are, not very good, but the early voyages comics aren't half bad.

Early TOS (1st season era) where I am, The show is ok, the comics are teeerrrrriiiibbbblllleeee (for the most part. The gold key comics are complete shit). But the brothers keeper series of books (just after "where no man has gone before") aren't bad and I am really enjoying the "Janus Gate" series. I think it's on par with the post enterprise books in fact (sadly, I have like a billion gold key comics ahead of me that I'm dreading)

I finally got around to reading Patterns of Interference. It had some good points, especially with the dryads, Devna, and the interference debates. It was a little predictable in places due to what we know comes after in the 23rd and 24th century. Read it if you like the characters and era.

If you want to read more about the continuity, science, and some of the writing process itself, Christopher L. Bennett always does annotations for his work on his website. I put the link to POI's annotations below:

https://christopherlbennett.wordpress.c ... notations/

You may still disagree with some of the choices, but it gives some insight into where he was coming from.

I had forgotten that Devna was in TAS, so the annotations helped me in that regard.
