For a really long time I couldn't stand Thor and of the major titles it was the one I was most reluctant to read. Similarly, for a really long time I couldn't stand Gerry Conway and read his stories grudgingly. You can imagine, then, how upset I was when Gerry Conway took over the scripting of Thor. Well apparently two wrongs do make a right because since he took over with John Buscema as the penciller Thor has become one of my favorite titles and, in my opinion, one of the most consistent titles in the line up. I'm talking long strings of 4* stories with the occasional 5* thrown in. So if Thor is boring you at your point in the order, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

That's good to know. Thor is one of the titles I look forward to the least. At first there were quite a few stories I really enjoyed, some of the long arcs were pretty good. I've gotten into 1970 now and I can't remember the last time I really liked a Thor issue.

I am not far behind green, and I am not enjoying Thor. There was a pretty good run in like 67 (right about the time Jane Foster disappeared), but lately it has been pretty bad.I am hoping I come across good issues of Thor that Green is talking about soon...

Yeah. To sound like a broken record, I've had the old "love-hate" with Goldilocks. Man, was this book shitty at the beginning. When they stopped treating him like Spider-Man and diminished the Loki appearances, it got pretty good--and the Asgard stories were decent. In my opinion, it started to shine around the time of the Ego and Galactus stories, and actually became one of my favorites. However, where I am now (early 1970), I think Kirby's lack of creative input and the edict of "single issue" arcs is slowing it down. I haven't really enjoyed the last 3 or 4 I've read. Thor is probably best suited for those long arcs over several issues.

It's funny that you mentioned Ego and Galactus because I just finished an arc that involved them. The really great thing right now is they will build up a minor plot point for three or four issues before it escalates into it's own arc. Additionally they will resolve loose ends from one arc three or four arcs later in a way that really makes it seem like they had been planning it all along.

I have a maybe weird question: I'm just at the beginning and reading journey into mystery online. And every issue only contains 14 pages. Is this the original size? Or did they cut out a couple of pages with other shortstories like in strange tales or tales to astonish for example?

I think the books had a short second story in most of them. Because they could only have 5 titles (I think it was five) because of a contract, thor they shoved into the existing JIM title.

I've always liked Thor since the beginning, maybe it's his godspeak: "yea, verily, I shall smite thee, so cease thy misdemeanors lest thy be smitten!", more seriously I think it's because his books tend to be cosmic.
