Have you read marvel? People are constantly taking unknown chemicals and drugs, zapping themselves with test rays, etc. People in the Marvel universe are kinda reckless.

Well, many mutants gain the ability to manipulate elements of their environment. It's not unimaginable that there is something unique about their homeland that has some bearing on their powers. Also Wanda and Pietro's waning powers at this time was referenced (though not clearly explained) as recently as Avengers: Children's Crusade.

Hmmm....Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch's origins are pretty all over the place. It could have something to do with Cthon trying to use them as a conduit to get to Earth.

You know, the more I read about quicksilver, the less I like him. He is so manic, and all over the place. They try to make him into a jerkish good guy, but he is more a paranoid sociopath then anything.

I'm not a huge fan of him, myself. Especially in the Ultimate line, even before Ultimatum.
I love when Jan talks to Cap about how Quick and Scarlet 'love' each other 'like that'. It was a huge wtf moment. I get that Cap was frozen decades, but incest shouldn't have changed much in the eyes of the public, even in a comic universe.

Its really hard to tell with the colors of the time, but it looks reddish brown in the early 80s
