So, I know this is probably the worst retcon in the history of retcons, but I just want to clear a few things up for myself. I know that the things that changed on Earth 616 was Peter never got married to MJ, just dated her instead. Norman is alive. Peter uses mechanical webshooters, Peter never had a kid, and no one remembers who Spider-Man is from his unmasking in Civil War. Is that pretty much the main points of what changed?

I have a huge problem with destroying something like this. I mean, honestly, there is so much wrong with it. The biggest problem, there are some stories that would not have happened unless Peter and MJ were married, and if one story hadn't happened, then B wouldn't have happened which mean C wouldn't have happened, etc. Basically, nothing would have played itself out the exact same way as it did the first time. The X-Men would have been affected, the Avengers, FF, every story would have been effected on some level. The Butterfly effect, basically.

That is pretty much all that changed. I'm fairly sure Norman was brought back before this. Harry showed up afterwards though (unrelated to the deal with Mephisto), is that what you meant?
The webshooters had, as I'm sure you know, been mechanical originally so no harm there...

The MJ retcon is the one that has everyone up in arms. It's not really that big of a deal once you get past it-- just something for the fanboys to get upset about.

Harry is who I meant. Dont know how I messed that up.
I just get irritated with the butterfly effect. You wanna use magic, fine, but at least have it make sense.

I think the attitude Marvel takes is that everything happened, they just werent married.
Not too much harm there.

That's what the official stance is, but I still say that even something as minor as that could cause problems. A major event in a heroes life not happening could cause him to decide one way instead of another.

I try to look at it this way, if you were to watch a movie where a character lives out a portion of his life and then suddenly something changed towards the end of the movie (like say, he never married his wife, he just dated her for a long time) of course that would change the direction the character's life took. Maybe they show this to you via a montage of altered flashbacks or something... that doesn't change the fact that you watched the events of his life play out over a certain period of time prior to the change.. Now maybe those events have been changed due to this twist, but you are not living this character's life, you are merely watching it and it doesn't change what you saw at the beginning of the movie.

Alternatively, after the eradication of the marriage all of the Spider-Man titles were cancelled save for Amazing Spider-Man which changed to a three times a month shipping schedule. At this point most Marvel titles were on a monthly shipping schedule... so during this period, Amazing Spider-Man had THREE TIMES the number of stories as the rest of all of the other titles in the Marvel Universe. In fact, it took many months before Amazing Spider-Man even referenced Dark Reign, which was the era all of the other titles were going through. Perhaps without telling us, they rewound Amazing Spider-Man a few months without explicitly telling us and that was actually rewriting the recent history of Peter being married to MJ?

I have nothing to back this up, and am not telling you what to think about the story. You are in the majority of fans (on the internet, at least) in disliking One More Day. Just a little food for thought.
and that second theory I just made up, but quite like.

I buy the rewind idea. First I have heard of it, but I did notice the gap in the Dark Reign from ASM and the other books published around the same time. I figured it was just a backlog of stories from the other spider-man titles needed to get finished.

I hadn't thought of it before, but it kinda works... Sorta. I like it as a theory.

That is a good theory. If I have a theory like that to go on, then I can buy it. As long as it makes sense, I'm happy.
