Right now I am still working on both An Introduction to Modern Political Theory & Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night, at least I can say I am a few chapters into the latter one. What is stuck on the shelf for the rest of you? I also need to add about four other books to this list (if I am being honest here).

I'm halfway through the most recent Game of Thrones book as of 6 months ago. I recently started The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen because I'm on this kind of Zen Buddhism kick recently. Coincidentally I started that book about 2 days before I found the CMRO, so I think we know what happened. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, the snobby Lit major side of me has tried and failed to read Joyce's Ulysses about three times in the last year and a half. I almost understand what's going on in the first part now so it's not worth nothing I guess.

That's because Joyce is overrated as literature. Its pretty bad as reading material if you are not going for intellectual pursuits.

It's certainly not light reading, though I don't know that I'd say he's overrated. I've enjoyed other works by Joyce and other modernist writers, notably Faulkner's The Sound and The Fury, which employs a similar stream-of-conciousness narrative style to Ulysses, but you definitely need to be in the right state of mind to work through a text like that. I'll hopefully be teaching full time next year, so, while I would never present a text like Ulysses to a high school class (except for maybe a senior elective), I'm hoping being back in that type of environment will inspire me to work through some of the weightier tomes I never got to in college because they can be extremely rewarding. As always, though, to each his own.

I have nothing against stream-of-conciousness. I like Faulkner's, and Vigina Wolf's stream-of-conciousness book also. I jut find Joyce uninteresting.

But yea, that's just me. I feel the same about Henry James.

Uggh, he's the worst. I do like The Beast in the Jungle though.

I need to add Game of Thrones to the list, I have had at least five people in the past month give me crude for not having it in the first place. What, I get busy with life. I wish I could shop for all the books I want but dang, I do not have the room in my house for the collection I want.

Why Does E=mc2 And Why Should We Care
Hard to get through pop physics lately. But I have a very full shelf of unread books I purchased with the very best intentions.

That a book title? If so, sounds interesting.

Pretty interesting 'pop' physics. A foxy woman recommended it to me, but I just haven't been able to finish it. The author was a UK pop band keyboard player. Weird career arc, right?
