I have a buddy who can't be more excited about this. I played the first two, but have trouble getting really pumped about Diablo for some reason. I always found the game a bit boring.

I found the others got old really, really fast, but were great fun for the first 8-10 hours. The way I see it, I'll get that time in the Beta, then don't have to buy it if there's no staying power again.

This this pretty much sums up what I expect from the game based on the Beta. Smashing enemies to bits with an axe as a Barbarian was great, running around chucking jars of spiders at people as a Witch Doctor was fantastically entertaining, but the environments are samey and combat boils down to "click left mouse as fast as possible" for the most part. Don't think there's going to be £35 worth of entertainment in there.

I completely disagree with you guys! Diablo III is going to be comparatively different than the other two. The technology has changed so much; the game is going to look and feel amazing. I hope.

It does look and feel amazing, but the gameplay boils down to "spam left click until enemy dies, loot, move on, spam left click until enemy dies, loot, move on" over and over and over. It viscerally fun for a while (lots of body parts flying around, scenery collapsing), but has the depth of a puddle.

That was my concern. I never got bored with the graphics of II, just the super repetitive gameplay. And everything I am hearing backs Xythe up on this.

What about the DRM debate? It does give me some pause and I made sweet sweet love to Diablo II the whole summer it came out. Love the games in general, but agree that the gameplay does get repetitive, a lot like the 'target enemy, spam special attacks' gameplay of World of Warcraft.

I haven't heard anything major about DRM and Diablo III.

I'm not an expert on the debate, but it involves the 'always online' DRM strategy that DIII will have and the new SimCity will have. The SimCity devs are trying to paint 'always online' as a COOL NEW feature and they deny it's DRM related, but we know better. ;-)
