It amazes me that Spiderman is still so loved these days. I remember my brother loving Spiderman when we were growing up. He always wanted to be Spiderman for Halloween. I swear he would not sleep in anything but his Spiderman footsie pajamas when he was a kid. Well now his son is the same way. Spiderman is huge - how long has he been around and how long do you think he will stay so popular?

Spiderman will always be popular, I hope. As long as the industry keeps finding ways to bring back the heroes, I think they'll stick around. I'm not sure how long he's been around, but at least as long as I've been alive.

Spiderman, or I should say boy, was the first thing my son dressed up as for Halloween. Who could not love this story? Spiders, flying, webs? Seriously, sometimes comics are over done but that still does not change when the original story is amazing how many decades later?

True. I should have linked here. My first reaction for finding a source is to type Wikipedia.

Wow, Spiderman has been around for years! I do believe that he will be popular for many more years to come. I saw there is a new movie coming out this summer too. I'm sure my kids will want to see it.

Sorry, had to come back. Spiderman is really not about spiders either. The cool or compelling core of Spiderman is Peter Parker, a nerdy teenager with real world problems. It's a much belabored point, but he was the first superhero who had to worry about things like bullies and grades and later paying his rent. In the modern era, he's the self taught loner (I detest some of the editorial changes to his character the last few years) with an unyielding character. He might get my vote for toughest guy in the Marvel 616 universe. He will never quit, and he will always make the correct moral choice (choosing your 98 year old mother figure over the smoking hot love of your life aside). Watching a young guy filled with self doubt mature over the years into a hyper competent crime fighter with little training and super hero support while keeping his sense of humor, that's why you read Spiderman.

I second this. That is why I find his books so interesting. Parker is made by his adversity. And look how much there is of it. Ben, George Stacy, Gwen Stacy (and thats just as far as I have been).
