I can't believe I am going to say this, but I just read his introduction into the Marvel universe, and it made sense. The issue was a little goofy (Adventure into Fear #19), but it worked. Other then being aware of him as a character and the movie about him from the 80's, I had no real knowledge of him. I always assumed he was just added arbitrarily (I guess based on his origin from the movie), not a character picked up from a previous storyline (cause clearly from AoF #19 he wasn't intended to be a long term character).

Such a random character, but when you consider scrooge and daffy were also popular at the time. I guess there was a bit of a duck craze going on back then.

Yeah, I think I've fought Howard's corner before on here.

Although he doesn't really fit into the universe, he is a pretty cool character. At the time his comics were considered part of the more mature range, which seems odd looking at the art. But a lot of the stories are satire and social commentaries.

I know nothing of Howard the Duck. I'm going to have to do some research on him. I loved daffy but he was a cartoon not a comic. Is Howard a mean duck or no?

Well, Daffy Duck and Howard the Duck are in no way analogous. One is a Disney character the other is a lude semi-superhero (ok, not superhero, but he partners with superheroes from time to time).

Daffy Duck is a Loony Toon. Donald Duck is the Disney character. Howard looks more like Donald, but personality wise they're all similar in that they tend to be a curmudgeon within their set of characters.

Did you ever notice that there are pretty much two version of Daffy Duck? There's the curmudgeon you mention which is the second version of him. Before that he was just kinda crazy. He would do that thing where he hopped all over the place. A friend of mine pointed it out to me one day in conversation and I hadn't noticed it until he brought it up.

Yeah. Didn't we have another thread on Howard a while back? My only experience with this character is the awful movie from the 80s. I'll reserve judgment on the comic for later--one of my buddies gave me the entire run last fall. There must be zero demand for the comic--i.e. pretty worthless, for him to do that.

The duck is for some of the history buffs I know, most people always think of just the semi-recent stuff but unless you go back and look at all of the past it will never make total sense. It took me a while too before I figured it out.
