Oh god yes.

It's like companies that go through their staff checking they represent all minorities.

Black man - check
Rich white dude - check
Asian woman - check
Single mother - check
Gay guy - damit! Quick, someone employ one!

For the record, I read that as sarcastic handclap as well, but that's neither here nor there. Back to the original topic, I partly agree. I think we'll have to wait and read the story before passing final judgement. In one sense it does seem like exploitative market but I don't know if DC are the ones to blame for the big uproar (although you could also argue they knew there would be one). Wasn't the original statement made by a creator who was just talking about his work? At the same time, gay rights are experiencing kind of a boom time right now with the recent repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and Obama/Biden taking a side on the issue. Still, as North Carolina demonstrated there is still a long way to go, so for a big media company like DC to take a stance on the issue can be seen as positive for them as well as activists and members of the LGBT community.

I say bravo to Marvel for coming out with a gay superhero. Why not, right? I mean gay rights are huge right now. President Obama is stating that gay marriages are okay. Maybe Marvel is looking to capture a new audience.

I don't think the audience would be new. I hope this was not an advertising stunt and it was a creator talking about his work. I also hope they don't completely focus on GL being gay and stick with an actual story. To me, that's like focusing on someone being white or black (or green or blue).

i'm clueless about DC, but there's that Martian Manhunter guy, sounds pretty sexual to me

Is this thing resolved in the meanwhile? I agree about the pr-stunt, but now I'm interested anyway because I've read the whole topic.

And for the record: Invincible did a pretty good job involving the romantic parts with the overall storyline and character-developments. I'd sign this comment:

If the primary reason you are reading comics is to see jacked up dudes in silly costumes throw down then I suggest WWE. Sure that escapist sensational aspect is part of it but good science fiction and fantasy is about telling human stories and looking at the human experience through a different lens. Perhaps the most significant aspect of that experience is how we interact with each other, romantically and otherwise. I will always be more compelled by a villain that is avenging a loved one or seeking vengeance for a wrong done to them (real or imagined) than one who just craves power. In the same way I'll always feel more for a hero that must make the tough choices between interpersonal fulfillment and their duty/responsibility.

I see, thank you guys. (I was typing 'thank you gays' but reconsidered it as a cheap joke (here is it anyway))

I agree with the above statement wholeheartedly.

Fights are fun to read(when they're done well), and are an absolutely integral part of superhero comics, but for me the real draws are the characters and immersing myself in a fictional universe.
