And for the record: Invincible did a pretty good job involving the romantic parts with the overall storyline and character-developments. I'd sign this comment:

Sure that escapist sensational aspect is part of it but good science fiction and fantasy is about telling human stories and looking at the human experience through a different lens. Perhaps the most significant aspect of that experience is how we interact with each other, romantically and otherwise. I will always be more compelled by a villain that is avenging a loved one or seeking vengeance for a wrong done to them (real or imagined) than one who just craves power. In the same way I'll always feel more for a hero that must make the tough choices between interpersonal fulfillment and their duty/responsibility.
