Most of those you listed I hate, except for Constantine. I enjoyed both the comic and the movie for some reason.

I just finished this whole Dormammu run across avengers and dr. strange. holy cow is he annoying.

The reason I selected religion as my points of focus is because that is why most people oppose gay marriage. Everyone I have talked to generally references religion as their reason for opposition. If you take out religion from the equation (which will never happen in reality) then gay marriage would be accepted by now. At first there would have been friction as does any large change, simply because it's change. Though y now most people would have accepted it.

Interestingly I can see it hurting comic sales, sure that particular issue may well get alarge readership, but if it becomes associated with gay people then others may well switch off from it.

This is in no way what I think SHOULD happen, rather what I fear WILL happen. There are an extraordinarily large number of homophobic people out there, especially among young males, which is also a large proportion of comic book readers.

Make no mistake, most of the time it's hate disguised by religion.

as for it being considered "gay" or hurting readership, I suggest that there are lots of gay people in Marvel comics and it hasn't hurt them yet. The only way I see this possibly hurting sales is if they turn Astonishing X-Men into some kind of domestic gay sit-com that no one wants to read anyway. Don't really see that happening.

That's last bit was my point. I don't see it happening either, but it's a risk. It's the same sort of risk as gene rodenbury took when he put a black woman on the bridge, but only time will tell if it's a good risk.

Well this has been a lovely thread to read. People don't like gay people, pagans, and/or women on the bridge. The intolerance of various types of minorities is disheartening.

I really only found the original post to show much in the way of intolerance.
I brought up the pagan stuff to illustrate the point that not liking something personally doesn't mean that thing shouldn't exist. Was I unclear?

I'm not sure how that's intolerant...

Oh, and women aren't minorities.

Personally I find people who fail to see irony disheartening...

(and yes, this could in itself be extremely ironic.)
